I did a hard pull and shifted from 3rd to 4th when I heard a clunk! I took it out

of gear and slowed down and then put it in 5th just to hear the GRINDING and the

rpms rising freely I then immediately pulled it out of 5th and tried 6th the same

grinding and revving! So I limped off the highway to realize the car is doing this

in every gear! The clutch pedal feels fine and the transmission shifts in gear

normal..Clutch has 105,000 never replaced......SO CLUTCH or

TRANSMISSION? OR REAR END? (Whiny Moser 9 inch 4.11)

 

if its in every gear, it sounds like the clutch.

but grinding would indicate something in the transmission though.

 

Me personally, i would be thinking clutch, input shaft or rear. Im no expert, but i dont think youd lose every gear at once, inside the trans.

 

I hope its the clutch ..I'm looking for a cheap monster stage 3 clutch now

 

how much does a input shaft or rear replacement run?

 

I also installed a tick master cylinder ~month ago

 

I think its the clutch...

 

My guess would be either frayed clutch lining or you stripped the center right out of the disk.

Can you shut the car off, put it in any gear, then start the car with the clutch in and drive away normally? Or does the car lurch forward when you try to start it like you don't have the clutch in at all? If you haven't tried this PLEASE make sure there is nothing to hit in front of you!

 

I'm pretty sure I can shift the car into gear without the engine running...I'll try to put it in gear with the car off and then start the engine and see if i can get the car moving in a gear...will let you know in the daytime

 

started the car in gear today and it rolled out normal although I only drove for 10 ft or so

 

I agree with what was said about the center of the clutch going bye.
Specailly if it moved today, the broken piece was prolly sitting in there just right to catch.

 

Can you shift it into the gears when the car is off?

 

Definitely a clutch issue then.

 

that's a relief although I believe a tranny rebuild is due cus the shifting is a little knotchy, maybe a new clutch will fix it

 

If the clutch is having issues the transmission could probably use a going through. Keep us posted when you get it apart. Take pics. Carnage is cool.

 

same hing happened to my stock clutch.You broke the center hub in the clutch disk.Just replace the clutch and you will be good to go.I did it on a 3-4 shift too,and my car was completely stock at the time with 12k miles on it
