t56 overhaul problem
Ok so I'm in the process of doing the level 2 tick performance overhaul... everything is going well and this is my first manual overhaul. Well the problem is this... got most of the re assembly complete and the case is going on. The issue is that once everything is in place and the case is on, the detent plate won't go into 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th. Its stuck... I'm anybody got any pictures of disassembly or feed back for this? I did it by the book and its going well, everything as far as synchoes and gears are lined up but its not seeming to mesh I guess? I hope I am just dumb and its something stupid I am forgetting. Thanks guys

Yeah that's what I figured, maybe they just kept falling off but I figurred it had to be that. I will try again on wed. Hopefully I will be able to get it in right. I also need to order some reverse parts... reverse was chewed up and spit out when I looked at it... maybe that's why it would go in gear at all? Haha

What I've found that works well is:
- Engage 4th gear with the selector and hang the 5/6/R lug on the interlock bushing
- Have the Detent lever all ready with spring and ball (assembly lube holds them in place nicely)
- Have the external guide pins teflon'd and ready
- RTV spread thinly on the front base
- Slide on the center case with the Detent lever held in place
- Install the LHS guide pin hand tight to align the 5/6/R rail
- Slightly lift the 5/6/R rail and install the RHS guide pin into the interlock
- Install and TQ the 11 front case bolts
- TQ the guide pins
- Test shifting with a 1/4" punch holding the detent lever, and install the 1/4" roll pin if it all works.

To add to Mike's technique,
You can use a plastic ziptie to hold the ball and spring in the detent lever during assembly of the case upon the shift rail.
A small to medium screwdriver handle placed under the 3-4 fork will keep the friction of the shift rail bushing in the main case from pushing that synchro into 4th gear. Just remove the screwdriver before the final few inches of lowering the case onto the front adapter plate.

I really appreciate it guys. I will let you know how the build goes. I'm pretty excited about finishing it, I also have a nice lil hurst shortthrow I'm putting on it when it goes back in

Where can I find instructions on rebuilding the t56? I've done it in the past but it's been 4 years, and that was only once while I was in school. I'd like to do a few now.
