Default Best time to shift?? What rpm??

I just bought a 6 speed LS1 2000 Camaro SS SLP with 18,000 miles on it. I'm learning how to drive stick shift currently as it is now my daily driver.

My questions are.... What RPM is best to shift at for each gear?

Like when in first gear, when it would be best to shift into second?

Is their a specific rpm level I should be at when I'm cruising? (Right now I'm around 1700ish RPM or trying to keep it around there when casual driving.)

I shift around 6K but with a stock engine I would stay a lil under that.

For normal driving I shift at like 2k and try to keep everything below 1500 when crusing. You can get about 22 or so mpg in town and 29 or so on the highway driving like that. Coasting in neutral everywhere is a big gas saver also. Another thing to remember is when you're sitting at a long red light put your car in neutral and keep your foot on the brake then when you see the light about to change put it in first. A lot of people say that's not very smart because if you get in an accident they say you will shoot out in the intersection, that's why you leave your foot on the brake. It will help keep your clutch from heating up if you do it that way. That's about all the tips I have for normal driving lol.

this engine really has great low end power. i just try to keep it above 1000 rpm for normal driving, but even at 1000 rpm it makes plenty of power for everyday acceleration.

Thanks for your responses. I appreciate the input. When i'm idle at a red light it usually sits at 800 rpm. I normally put it into first with the clutch and the brake pressed down. I will drive it tomorrow and most likely will shift around 2000 rpm. Slow and steady wins the race! :-P

There is also a shifting schedule in your owner's manual.
