Newbie M6? Trick to getting into reverse?
Finally got my car converted. I am having a problem getting into reverse most of the time. It keeps wanting to go into 5th instead of R. I have to mess with it for a few seconds before I can get it into that gear. Is there a trick to it? FWIW I have a Pro 5.0 shifter (kicks *** btw).

If you converted it, did you hook up the reverse lock out solenoid on the side of the transmission? Most guys either install a switch to put 12 volts on that solenoid or they hook a high current relay to a set of contacts on the brake switch (so if you are on the brakes, it will go in). The only "problem" with the brake switch idea is if you are slowing down and make an upshift (you "shouldn't" do that, but many of us do) from 4th to 5th, you could find reverse. The reverse gear has a "crash through" gate which is why if you hit it pretty hard it will still go in.
Hope that helps!

Which stick are you using? Believe it or not, I had to switch back to the stock pro 5.0 stick from my short stick. It wouldn't go into reverse with the shorter stubbier stick worth a crap, and I'd have to take both hands and push it over past fifth into reverse. Swapped back to pro 5.0 stick in parking lot and voila, back to normal.

I have the same problem and I'm totally stock. Not sure what is causing it since it's been doing this since it was BONE stock (not anymore, Finally ditched the cags! ) I think it's just a little tempermental. EVERY manual transmission has some quirk, at least any that i've ever seen or heard about from friends.

Reverse in the 6 speed IS fully synchronozed. The only thing entering another gear first will do is re-index the trans and allow better synchronizing. If you put the CAGS device in the wrong solenoid harness , it would give you the reverse shift problem you describe.
