Default Any one had a clutch explode with a ls1/t56 combo?

I will be getting an sfi bellhousing over the winter, I have been having a huge fear my clutch will explode Leaving the line at 7k+ na and around 6300-6600 on spray.

My question is have any of you ever had one come apart? what was the situation? and when did it do it? got any pics? Still have your feet/toes?

My uncle was the one to strike fear into my heart. He is an old nhra stocker guy and he had one let go on him, but he had 1/4 inch steel welded to the trans tunnel so no injuries. (this was way back in the day of course)

I have heard of it happening before. Protecting yourself is a good idea.

I spent 2 seasons leaving at 7000rpm with the stock bell housing before I finally wised up and put a quicktime bell in. Really like my feet, the money is worth the reassurance IMO.

Yup. I friend of my uncles had some damage to his leg from a clutch coming thru the floorboard in a race. That cast bh will do nothing to protect you, if anything it will project more shrapnel.

It's only going to take it happening once for you to reconsider going with something like a Quicktime Bellhousing. I know they are pricey but how much is your leg worth to you? I really try to push them when selling a transmission or clutch package to a customer making over 500 fwhp.

I've seen it, it's not pretty.

It screws up the car and could potentially screw up your feet. A SFI certified bellhousing is a fantastic idea, hands down.

yup, only scratched the QTP bellhousing, ripped the starter off the motor, and the whole upper left under the cylinder head off.

Left at 7700 off the line, had a slight vibration, thought it was the tires, on the big end at 7000 it got really bad, as I backed out of it, it went boom, pieces of the block everywhere, the clutch it self was mostly intact, counterweights were gone as was some friction material...could have been alot worse though.

I had one grenade a couple of months back, pressure plate let go....

No bell housing left
chunks out of block
chunks out of gearbox
tunnel hammered but nothing came through thankfully
4" cut in fire wall
took out brake lines
took out air con hard lines
broke the back off the inlet manifold
trashed the wiring loom
crushed the exhaust
