This is about the 3rd instance of this in the last couple months. I'm interested in what is causing this.

Here are your other two threads.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...il-tranny.html

https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...w-shifter.html

If you read and follow instructions, you can read a comprehensive thread about this issue where someone RESOLVED their issue.

Tip: It has about 20+ replies and is in the manual transmission forum.

The transmission does not center the shifter left to right. The shift mechanism from inside to out has nothing to do this in non Y-body T56s.

The shifter centering is done by the springs in the shifter. Your MGW is probably just as easily disassembled as a factory Hurst which has simple shimmed springs.

In the thread you may or may not have read yet where the problem was resolved, it sounds to me like someone had some smoke blown up his bum in blaming the transmission.

Every bit of the above has been in prior threads. Multiple people with the same issue and the same shifter are usually not a coincidence.

Only the springs in the shifter is responsible for centering the shifter when in neutral. There are no centering springs in the transmission itself. If its not centering then there is probably binding in the trans preventing the shift rails from rotating smoothly.

I meant I was wondering why this particular shifter is the only one that has this problem. Everyone on here claims its so great but the centering mechanism is crap.
