The clutch works off hydraulic pressure just like your brakes. You have a clutch master cylinder and a line that leads to the internal clutch slave cylinder inside the bellhousing. The fluid needs to be changed often as it gets contaminated with clutch dust and gets hot and absorbs water. When the quality of the fluid is ignored for long periods of time, or the master/slave start wearing and don't work as well this all leads to poor clutch disengagement.

If your clutch isn't disengaging all the way then you're banging gear and shifting while the clutch is dragging, making the internals of transmission work harder and wear faster.

Yes, I change out the fluid in my clutch reservior fairly often and it does help. I know that is not a full flush but it's better than nothing.

Im on my 4th LS1 6-speed camaro (had a 98, 01 Z28, 02 SS and now back to an 02 Z28) all have been manuals with the T-56. The eariler cars (98-2000) used to have huge issues with 3rd gear poping out and shifing issues. My 98 Z28 was lemon lawed (back in the day) due to this. There was a service bulletin about it. The 01-02 Z28/SS that I have owned did not have any trans issues at all!!! I changed the fluid as recommended in my 01-02's with Castrol Dex Merc and have never had a problem.

PS - DONT BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THE T-56. If you are not very good at high speed shifting or power shifting dont do it! I gaurentee that most people that are having T-56 problems have missed some shifts and grinded gears. All it takes is a few times of doing this and the trans will start to have problems.

most problems are due to either hydrolics or improper driving. you can beat on them but if your missing shifts, grinding gears, etc, it's going to wear out faster. you can power shift or quick shift them fine without breaking parts if your good at it and can do it smoothly.

4l80e's are great if you want an auto with overdrive. unless your going for fast times at the drag strip though, i just wouldn't go auto. just personal preference though, i love ripping gears.
