Default Any one have opinions/experience with any of these short shifters?

Hey all,

One of the next things I want to do is get a short shifter. The thing is I've heard a few opinions on some which were not very good and don't want to really solely on the 2-3 reviews from the web page I'll probably buy from either.
If you have first hand experience with any of these I would appreciate what you have to say about them.
Thanks in advance.

I started off with a stock, non-factory Hurst shifter. It was a pretty significant upgrade. I paid like 50 bucks for it off of the forum here. I used it for a few months, then bought the UMI short stick. I loved the setup. It took a little bit to get used to, because the shift handle was angle closer to me, but it felt great.

After that, I picked up a used Pro 5.0 from the forum. It's a much nicer shifter, having the shift stops, made of billet, and comes with a decent handle. I installed it, put my UMI shifter handle on it, and was somewhat disappointed. I didn't feel much difference between the Pro 5.0 and the factory Hurst!

From what I've read, the nicest shifter is the MGW. They're pricey, but most people who use them and get them broken in love them. I've thought about switching over, but with the other projects going on with the car, I can't justify buying another shifter.

I went with the MGW, because I was told it was the best. I must say that I am very happy with it

Ive had the factory hurst, pro 5 and now the mgw. I like the mgw the best, no complaints at all. My pro 5 was noisy.

Thanks for all the input so far, good stuff.

Please everyone else keep it coming as I'm going to be taking all this into account and I'm probably not going to purchase until next week.

I've had stock, the Pro 5.0 and now the MGW.

The 5.0 was nicer than stock with the bump stops etc, but was notchy and throwing 5th was a PITA at times. MGW finally made a shifter to fit the fbody so I bought it. Yes it was more costly up front but I can count on one hand the amount of times I've missed a shift while racing in the 18 months I've had mine. Its smooth, a short throw, reverse is easy to get into as well as 5th gear.

I was hesitant to give up my pro 5.0 but glad I took a chance and went with the MGW.

I have the MGW now, came from stock with a Lou's short stick. The short stick was really short, shorter than my MGW actually, but the MGW feels better. It is "easier" to get into gear, and you know exactly where you are shifting. I've never mis-shifted (not that I've ever done it otherwise either, but) banging gears. I really like it a lot.

I have a buddy with the ripper shifter he said he likes it

On another note I have another buddy with a pro 5 that he said he loved, well we swapped my clutch and he sat down in my car and went thru the gears with my MGW and the only thing he said was wow. So their all just about the same price. Do it once, do it right. MGW. you will not regret it.

I have the 5.0 on my bird and it feels loose and sloppy compared to whatever the hell is on my GTO. Bought it that way and had no idea what it was till i bumped into the previous owner. Said it was the Holden performance shifter? I know thats GM,s Australian division but have no details on what part its, but if I could switch the Bird over I would.

In the numerous F-Body cars that we have built and owned through the years I have found that the Pro 5.0 outlast and outshifts the competition hands down. We offer both but I prefer the Pro 5.0. Throws are shorter more precise and imo it has a more in touch feel with the car than the others.

P.S. the fastest 6 speed 1/4 mile record holder is a turbo F-body with a t-56 and a Pro 5.0 shifter.
