Drill Mod On Slave
#21
I think there maybe some confusion regarding the roll pin. I think we are talking about the roll pin holding the quick disconnect fitting to the slave assembly. See the attached picture of a "288" slave

i looked on mine and i stuck the drill bit in and it went in all the way without a problem. so i wonder if its jsut a vette thing. cause i looked at this after i did my drill mod on my old slave.

Just got my slave in the mail from Fred Beans and immediately removed the roll pin and the restriction is right where the hose mates up with the slave body just past the roll pin. Drilled it out to 1/8". The pic below is a vette slave. Looks like the only difference between it and the F-Body slave is the hose rather than a short hard line to the quick disconnect. I have heard that there is another restriction at the 90 degree bend in the vette slave hose but have not confirmed it. In any case I would imagine the F-Body slave has the restriction at the end of the hard line where it meets the slave body like my vette slave did and therefore drilling out the CMC hose restrictor would do next to nothing without also removing this restriction. Can an F-Body guy confirm this? It would be a shame if everyone who thought they had done the drill mod had only done half the job.

the fbody slave looks nothing like that. only the hard line. ill try and get a pic. there is no restriction what so ever in mine that i could find. the drill bit went right in the whole way. i take it its jsut a vette thing

Actually, McLeod makes a 4AN line with a quick connect fitting that runs from the master to the quick connect on the slave. This will get rid of all your restrictions once the slave drill mod is done. It's a pretty sweet setup.

***Update***
I did the drill mod on the slave and ran a 4AN line directly from the master. The car shifts like a dream at any rpm. However, I think it needs a little restriction to engage a bit slower. This thing is either off or on without any middle ground. I am going to try running the stock line from the master just for **** and giggles, to see if there's any difference in the engagement. My slave line was drilled from 1/16th to 9/64th's.
BTW- this is with a new Exedy Twin Disk

Those pin connections you refer to are banjo joints. There are a few people who are try to get convert those connections to AN fittings and thicker lines but no one will post results if theyve completed it. Id like to try it myself. Moves more fluid...

Thought I would resurface this thread. I just bought a brand new 01/02 F-body Slave. I pulled the retaining pin and quick dissconnect assembly. I then installed a 1/8" drill bit by hand in the Slave, and it slid in no problem, the hole was actually bigger than the bit was. Same goes for the quick dissconnect shaft, 1/8" bit was smaller than the shaft hole size. So on an F-body, the only restriction I see, is at the braided line on the master. Vette's must be different..

You are correct Dan. There are three resrictions in the vette hydraulic line and the one at the slave is one of them. This restriction in the slave is not present on the F-Body slaves.
