Default Clutch problems, I need advice.

I have had the car for less then a year now and I already have had one clutch put in it. If I recall the guy who owned the car before me had a clutch put in it too. So that totals 3 replacement clutches if I fix this one. Here is my problem, the TA has 33,700 miles on it and the clutch slips in 3 and 4 gear when I get around 2,500 rpm. Should I wait and see if it gets any worse? Or should I look at buying another clutch. If option two is the way to go what clutch would you recommend? The car is making 328 to the wheels. I have only done a hand full of WOT runs and never dump the clutch. Most likely this car will either never be raced on a track or a couple of times. No big horsepower mods will be happening in the future with the exception of longtubes......maybe. My budget is tight so I don't wont to spend extreme amounts of cash. The whole things really pisses me off, I know the factory clutches suck, but damn! What do you guys recommend?

you could get the 01-02 clutch, it was the ls6. or you could go with a single disk mcleod or a spec stg. 2

I'd recommend the Spec mines held up a year beating the hell out of it. Hold on so I can knock on wood!!!

Thumbs up

I have a Z06 and there is alot of talk about the Luk and Exedy clutch kits being very smooth and able to hold a ton of power. I purchased an Exedy twin plate for my supercharged Z06 and love it. There is no chatter and it is extremely smooth. I spoke with several tuners prior to purchasing and most of them have been installing either the Luk or Exedy depending HP. I figured if it was good enough for them it was right for me.

Geez maybe the flywheel is warped and the clutch replacements are not fixing the cause of the problem. Your clutch useage looks like mine and I got 70,000 miles on the original one.

I dunno but it really pisses me off. How long can I go on a slipping clutch. If I continue to drive it like that will it cause other problems down the line?

The slipping clutch will tend to overheat the flywheel and warp it. If you baby the clutch and keep the torque lower than normal it will last longer but I don't know how long. Maybe a 1,000 or 2?

When you say you have "...done a hand full of WOT runs and never dump the clutch..." does that mean you are launching the car, or on the dyno?

Because if you are winding it up and trying to feather the clutch of the line, we now know why you are killing clutches...

LUK makes the Z06 clutch I bought one at the dealer in December and I am very happy with it. I don't race though; so I can't comment on how much abuse these can take.

Nope, on a WOT I release the clutch (like normal acceleration) and then hammer it.

Aftermarket flywheel? Resurfaced stocker?

Sounds like the previous owner was hard on the car if the clutch was replaced before 30k...

Ya maybe. This will be the fourth clutch going in the car. A month after I had it I was having problems and supposedly the clutch plate was shattered in half when GM replaced it. Again, I wasnt very hard on it. So I have no idea, I guess that is the problem with buying a used car
