You don't have to slow down to down shift.....not even little. You just rev match to the gear you want and go down through the shift pattern. Something that sycro'd cars should be doin anyway.

Rev matching at high RPMs is tough. I can revmatch my downshifts fine when slowing down, like 5th to 4th to 3rd. But rolling at like 70 and going from 6th to 3rd is difficult.

It's not difficult. You just have to know how to do it. Maybe I'll make another vid. Hell I go to 2nd at 60mph when I have to. You just have to whack the throttle and go down through the gearbox.

To put a different perspective on it for some, think motorcycle transmission.

Downshifting is DEFINITELY harder than with synchro's.

Upshifting is too.....you can't limp dick the thing and either way rev matching is a proper downshift. I hate seeing someone down shift and let the clutch out slowly for the rpm to catch up.......that person can't drive a stick......period. They think they can but the reality is they can't.

Let me add this, along with don't comment if you haven't owned one, (face plated or? ) I do have a Tick level 5 TR6060 super magnum with sprayer. I see comments about missing a shift on these. I can tell you this, this trans is a far better shifting trans than the stock T56 was. The stock T56 was easy to miss a shift if you didn't get your hand placement right or what ever. This TR6060 is a dream by comparison. At the risk of jinxing myself in over a year I have not missed a shift. And I am 1000 rwhp.

I have a T56 Magnum and the shifting is primo.... there is no comparison to a traditional non TR6060 T56. I have yet to hurt anything in around 2K hard miles. I'm guessing I'm making approx 575rwhp.

I am curious about the downshifting on a faceplated transmission. Please make a video.... with maybe entering a corner and downshifting.... then putting the power down.

I road race so downshifting efficiency is imperative. I've had a GForce 4spd behind a 438ci LS7 and it certainly is not a street transmission... but damn does that thing shift like a ****. After lunching reverse gear (didn't engage it enough.... it took out pretty much every other gear from debris.... rebuilt cost was scary expensive). Sold that and went to a T56 Magnum.... never looked back.

Experience in daily driving is the key. Still, downshifting is far from drama free. I always went to neutral and blip the throttle with the clutch out, then clutch in and downshift. Its all about knowing the amount of RPM by ear that you need to get close to a speed match for downshifting. After 18,000 miles, I did pretty good, but no where near as good as as upshifting. 75%+ of the time, I could run up through all 4 gears and you'd never even hear a clunk cause I never used the clutch. Downshifting....MAYBE 2% of the time it wouldnt clunk.

my suggestion is go with the faceplated t56 and dont look back. they are not that hard to drive on the street, you will get the hang of it. If you dont care about a little clunk every now and again then go for the faceplating. Rowing through the gears is so much smoother and more enjoyable

this all take practice like anything else its all about timing. rather than say a FPd tranny isnt "street friendly" id rather say it isnt "lazy dumb operator friendly" because a smart coherent driver who isnt lazy and likes all out performance will learn and shift properly double clutching and rev matching. when my built tranny goes ill surely be going face plated.

like i tell everyone its not a luxury car and never will be.
