Spec Clutch measurements not adding up!?!?!?
Bought a Spec 2 clutch, Spec billet flyeheel, new master, drill mod, new slave etc... cant shift into 1st or Reverse without effort and it grinds if I try to put it in gear to quick.... read several threads that differ when figuring out dimension to see if you need to shim or not, pulled the tranny and my measurement is .158, shorter then Spec calls out at .175-.225 however after researchinv , many others including sponsors are suggesting somewhere in the .125 range, which is it? Thank you for any input!

The measurement now is .158, if I put a shim in it would decrease that number.... again, putting it in the range everybody else calls out except Spec

Yes
And yes it's pretty much extended out as far as it can go.... I wish somebody could shed some light on how much airgap they're really ia suppose to be, is Spec right, or is .125 right?

LS1Charged, The recommended spacing, which is noted in the paperwork that we provide is what we recommend. This notation is relative to countless installs/fitments over the years and it is what we set up the gap to in each instance. Could you go with a lower value? Sure, but when the fingers raise relative to wear then the bearing can begin riding the fingers, thus keeping the clutch partially released. This in turn will lead to slippage.
Did you have any issues getting the transmission mated to the motor? Did you have to pull the trans up with bolts? Did you have any trouble getting the input-shaft through the center of the disc? Issues of this nature can damage the clutch disc or plate?
Have you tried pumping the clutch pedal? Do you notice any difference in gear selection when you do?
Feel free to give me a call and we can discuss this further to insure that nothing is being missed. Thanks!
