Default T56 Rebuild or Tranzilla

I have a 1969 Camaro with a built ls1 h/c/i setup making around 470hp right now. The plans in the next couple years is to go power adder and bring that closer to 750hp+.

The t56 in it is out of a 99 Camaro I believe and has trouble high rpm shifting and pops/grinds out of reverse. Time for a rebuild and I believe I have a couple options:

- stronger parts t56 rebuild
- stronger parts t56 rebuild with straight cut gears
- tranzilla (t56 with tr6060 internals)

The car will be driven on the street and at the track but never daily driven. I like the idea of keeping synchro's but I don't want to be missing gears with high rpm shifting. It looks like the triple cone synchronizers out of the tr 6060 may be exactly what I'm hoping for? If so who would be the best route to go through?

Thoughts/opinions?

At that power level, the magnum is a good option. If you end up needing lots of hard parts in your t-56 it'll get really expensive really fast anyways. Plus the stock internals are good for ~600rwhp, but a magnum will be a lot tougher.

Call up RPM, they build the nastiest T56's I've ever seen. Few locals were running them around here with some pretty insane power and sprayers and didn't even flinch at the power.

I'm not just worried about it handling the power but also shifting it at upwards of 7k rpm and not missing gears because it doesn't want to go into gear at that rpm. Any thoughts on that?

Shifting would be fine in either as long as your clutch and hydraulics are up to snuff. I still vote the magnum for better synchros though.

I run a Magnum in my LS7 FD and shifted at 7200rpm.... also one in my LS9 Turbo FD making 1200rwhp+ and have shifted at 7800rpm into 5th.

That being said a lighter clutch/flywheel allows you to shift higher easier. My Tremec distributor says the highest RPM a T56 Magnum will consistently shift at is around 8000-8200rpm.

The Tranzilla is a bad *** trans.... but so is the Magnum.

With how expensive T56 parts are getting, it might be more cost effective to just go with a magnum honestly. RPM build an amazing transmission, but if you're going for that much power, I'd go with a setup that can be rebuilt if needed, because manuals can and do destroy parts along the whole drivetrain.

Moving away from the old T56 makes sense no matter what way you do it....but on that note, if the current box works for you, just use it til it breaks.

Or if you do move away, it would be sellable for people needing parts.

Magnum makes sense, as it's all OEM parts and there should be good supplies for a few years.

RSG Tranzilla, no idea who available replacement parts are or how often them may be needed. I think on added bonus with the Tranzilla is there are slightly more gear ratio options than with the Magnum.

I see RSG mention on their site they may have a dog engagement version available too...but little info or pricing.
