Default After Three transmissions and 2 PRO 5.0's..............

I Just had my 3rd trans finished going in last night and the shifter still sticks to the left. As in if i pull the shifter from Neutral over toward 1/2 but dont shift into 1st and then let go of the shifter it SHOULD return to center but mine doesnot.

This has been the case with 3 different T56's and 2 PRO5.0's so that kinda rules out the shift slider in the trans and the shifter spring being weak. Is the damn rubber boot holding it up. whats the deal. I spent all this $ for a good trans and shifter setup and I still risk 2-1 shifts when going for third.

Please Help.

I wouldn't be worrying about 2-1 shifts as it is HARD to put it into 1st when your moving along pretty good.j I would be more worried about the 3-2

You mention the rubber boot...

You did cut a larger hole in the rubber boot and force it down around the base of the Pro5.0, didn't you? If not, then that could very well be the problem.

Did cut the boot. A little too large actually. but I have taken it apart several times and the boot isnt holding it. Im starting to get pissed. With the shifters off they dont stick so you would think Tranny issue, but 3 trannys later?????????????????

Mine does it too, but I'm not too worried about it.

My old Pro 5.0 did the same thing. The springs get weak after a couple of thousand miles.

Went back to the factory Hurst with a short stick (LSS) and never have problems with it returning to the center plus it shifts just as good (if not better) than the Pro 5.0. Its much quieter too.

I had the same problem, and what I did is take the shifter apart and there are 2 springs in it one on each side. Take a look at it and figure out which spring returns it to the center, I think it was the one on the right side. Now take a small washer and place it under the spring. All you are doing is shiming the spring and it increases the pressure. Never had a problem with it since. And no missed gear shifts.

The springs are definitely weak in the Pro5.0., and is one reason why I got rid of mine and went back to the factory Hurst.

Its amazing how many of us have this problem and yet PRO 5.0 hasn't done anything to remedy this. They did however swap one out with me without much fuss so Ill give em that.

THere are so many of the aftermarket parts I have on my car that I wish I had gone with other vendors on. I was a little impaitent when I started modding so I guess I jumped the sun.

If I had waited, I probably would have a set of Kooks instead of SLP, THe extreme duty torque arm instead of teh SLP adjustable, BMR strut tower instead of SLP and a Kirban or other instead of the PRO 5.0.

Oh well. Lesson learned!

My Pro 5.0 did that from the day I picked it up (brand new). I assumed that was just the way it was made. Did a couple 3-2 shifts, luckily didn't hurt anything, but with practice and changing the way I shifted at the track, never did it again.

My shifter did it too but I never went 2-1. I think you need to learn how to shift personally. I made tons of passes on the stock trans and never broke it.

Ive had my pro 5.0 for 10k of HARD miles.. and no issues. sticking in a gear is normaly a clutch bleeding issue.

It doesn't stick in gear, and its not a clutch issue, it just doesn't return the center when in nuetral. Pro 5.0 shifter was one of the worst mods I've done.

My Pro 5.0 has given me nothing but perfect shifts so far. I love it, and it and the Ripper are the strongest out there right now. I hate to break it to you but if you are wearing springs out of a shifter, you're either one shitty driver or you road race. Im thinkin its not the shifter, but a bent shift fork. T56 forks are prone to bending ya know... and even though u had 3 trannys, how many miles were on each? from what i understand there are two different t56s, check ur trannys to see if they are the M29 model. it is the best and is the same(minus the stock shifter) as found in the Viper. it has stronger forks and may be your answer to a weird problem.

Yup I was thinking it was the slider but after 3 trannys I gave that option up. I am going to go to a Kirban or B&M. I just wanna make sure I can keep my Short Stick cause I LOVE that thing.

Anyone wnat a good deal on a PRO 5.0 with less than 500 Miles on it, PM me. It has about 200 on it now.

How are you going to wear the springs out on a shifter if you road race? Daily driving requires more shifting then on a road coarse.

Bent forks will affect how the tranny goes into gear, but it's not going to affect how the spring feels when you move the shifter left and right in neutral. Everyone I know has the same feeling with the Pro 5.0. It's not that the springs are worn out, it's just that they are weaker feeling then the factory Hurst.
