Hopefully you put in an 01-02 master. If so, it is probably your slave cylinder. Upgrade that to a 01+, if that doesnt do the trick try the drill mod.

I have a 02 master and 02 slave and drill mod and it still does it. Nobody on this forum has a real fix for this problem. Good luck.

Mine was doing that a few months ago also. It only did it when I ran the car hard. Turns out the clutch fluid was a tad low. I went ahead and flushed it and refilled it to the proper level and I haven't had any problems since.

Well, I didn't technically flush it. My clutch fluid was very dirty looking, so what I did was buy a cheap turkey baster and suck out as much dirty fluid as I could. You cant get it all out with the baster so what you do is add clean fluid to dilute the remaining dirty fluid. Pump the clutch a few times to mix it up and evacuate the dirty fluid again. Do this several more times until your fluid looks fairly clean. You probably won't get it completely clean, but you will make a noticeable improvement.

That is the easy/lazy way. The hard/correct way to do it is to crack the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder and bleed the clutch as you would your brakes. This is pretty hard to do since the space is limited around the bleeder valve, and you cannot see what is going on. Before you go through all that trouble I would try the lazy way first to see if that solves your problem. When you get done you probably want to pull a vaccuum on your clutch fluid resovoir to get all the air out. I use a Mityvac to do this. Also make sure that you fill the fluid to the correct level.

I am with you Scott, I have the 01 master and slave and my pedal did this too... Especially when it got hot...

If you do a search on some of NineBalls' posts, he had a fix for this problem and it worked for me. He explained how the heat kills the clutch fluid and causes this problem, and also how you could get new fluid and use some heat tape on the braided steel line to try to lower the chance of this problem returning. Out of all of the posts that I have read about this 'problem', he had the most reasonable sounding solution and explanation, and it worked!

(Sorry I don't have a link to his post)

Air in the slave. I think that's everyones problem and why it gets a little better over time. Take a look at the slave. The bleeder is not at the "very" top. There is still room for air to hide. I honestly feel that the only way to bleed these damn things is with some sort of pressure bleeder. I can't prove this but after trying everything and seeing the results that's what I have come up with. I even cut a hole in my tran tunnel so I can bleed it from the bleeder by myself. That helped alot.
