Default Anti Venom Mod - (Shim Detent)

Can anyone comment on the negative side effects of the Anti Venom mod? Seems like if it was such a great idea, Tremec would have built these transmissions with this in mind.

Thanks,

Randy

I'm not aware of any negatives. I've had one washer in my detent for years now, all good. I like notchy shifters but my MGW was just a little too much in my C5, the one washer took a little tightness out of it. I tried 2 and didn't care for the feel, was too loose/vague for me. Just measured my spare washer and it's ~.05 inches/1.27mm thick.

In my opinion, there's no need for this mod unless the shifter is a little too notchy for the person which may be why Tremec hasn't changed a thing.

I've had that mod on my car for almost 6 years. No downsides I can see. I have a Billet Pro shifter set in the very lowest **** position so the shifting is stiff already and reverse is quite a bit of a push. Doing the washer mod made it a lot better. I even put a washer under the reverse switch and it made getting into reverse a lot easier. Depending on your shifter, the reverse switch washer may not be needed.

Good stuff. I’m giving it a try. I installed the washers tonight. My factory Hurst shifter fell apart so Im installing an MGW. It’ll be a few weeks until I drive it but I’ll update this thread with my impression once I put some miles on it.

I did the mod to eliminate that annoying momentary delay between gears from the ball springing out and having to be forced back in.

The potential is for the shifter to pop out of gear on its own if it is too loose. So far I have not had this happen. And I run TWO copper washers.

I just did the mod yesterday. I used one copper washer. My detent was pretty snug and the spring pressure seems fairly stiff. On my transmission, I immediately noticed less gear crunch going into 2nd and 3rd and 5th slides in easier. The downshift into 1rst is also easier. Well worth the effort. I did mine with the transmission in the car.

Did you have to pull the crossmember and lower the trans a little or were you able to reach it as is?

I lowered the trans about 6". It can probably be done without lowering the trans with the right combination of socket and extensions.

I did mine without lowering the trans. I just used a 24mm socket, swivel and long extension. To get it back in you need to work your fingers into a position to get it started. Smaller hands would be easier but I have large hands and managed to do it.
