Default TR6060 front cover switch to magnum front plate with oil pump?

Hey guys, been searching like crazy (probably not hard enough as I’m sure someone will point out) but...

I have a TR6060 with the pump that is integrated into the front cover/bell housing. I’d like to swap over to the magnum front plate so I can use an SFI bell housing. I know Bowler racing sells an entire kit that includes a machined front plate so you can use a TR6060 pump, but I don’t need the whole kit at $900. I only need the front plate. However, it appears that all of the Magnum front plates are not yet fully machined to the pump. It only looks like two holes need to happen.

1. Are people just modding their own magnum front plates and swapping over the pump?
2. Is there a front plate only for sale (not an entire kit) that I’m just not finding?

You can see the very minor differences between the two front plates here. I’m assuming the open hole is for the oil pickup tube, but what is the torx bolt for? I could of course figure all this out if I had access to a TR6060 service manual, but I can only find T56 service manuals which obviously don’t have the pump.

thanks guys

I have modded a pump plate (non-bellhousing type) to fit a TR6060. The mods needed had nothing to do with the pump.

1. I rather doubt it. If you're not a machinist, it's going to be significant work work.
2. I think RSG can set you up.

yes thank you. But those are the ONLY info I can find on this swap. That’s where I got the picture I posted. But again, it seems bowler only sells the entire kit, and not just the front plate.

Do you know how much work work? The two front plates I posted look almost identical. Only difference appears to be one additional torx bolt, and then one single hole. That doesn’t seem like a lot of work? 🤔 What am I missing?

So this is a pic of the front plate modded from bowler racing. The ONLY difference (at least that I can see) is the two parts I circled in yellow.

pic 1 bowler modified front plate
pic 2 normal magnum front plate
pic 3 TR6060 bell/front plate

I would like more detail of what the internal pump actually does, and where it pumps the oil.

Ideally you'd want an internal rail squirting oil between the gears at the front. Not sure this type actually does that ?

I made a little video talking about it. I’ll see if I can upload it straight to ls1 tech. If not, I’ll have to do a little YouTube thing.

ok, had to use YouTube.

Seems so odd that when the 6060 has this...they omitted it for the Magnum

Correct. I don’t know why they would do that either. But the magnum case and my 6060 case are identical. The magnum case has a spot for this oil inlet that I mention in the vid, and the magnum front cover has a provision for this oil pump, but since it has been omitted, the front cover has not been machined for the oil pick up tube and then whatever that torx bolt is on the right.

you can see on the magnum front cover that it’s there... the line just exits the side of the front cover instead of the integrated bell housing. Same thing though. It’s just capped off on the magnum.
