Damn, Swapper, This really sux. This was exact thing I dealt with twice. I thought it was just may bad luck. But for peace of mind, I would be send back to Spec and have them check it. Make sure to ask about a shipping label. McLeod has free shipping for warranty returns. Monster doesn't but does offer a $50 label that covers it. A triple disc would set me back $82 on UPS and it paid off. The pressure plate was bad.

I wish I would have taken pics of taking proper measurements. I've done many over the years but only ever had problems on my own stuff.

EDIT:
NEVER, eva, eva, eva, eva try to pull in trans with bolts. A trans should set right in once lined up. Granted I do Autos every other day, but even Manuals must mate freely.

Also, just read this
Measured both areas. Was 2 1/8" from pressure plate to bellhousing. 2 from top of slave to trans face.
If you're trying to use a measuring tape...UHHH, thats not good. These tolerances are within thousandths of an inch. A measuring tape can be off as much as 1/4"..thats 0.250"

@Swapper Sorry man, I feel your pain. I am done with this and found a "performance" car shop that does custom and performance upgrades to all kinds of cars and will let them have a go at it. My mechanic gave up today after he placed the "middle" sized shim in and it did noting different. I am not understanding what is going on, and neither is he so that road is at a dead end. The bolts mating the slave to the transmission aren't long enough to "stack the shims" and realistically would the slave need to travel THAT far to push past the pressure plate fingers? I had too many meetings this morning to help out much on the transmission removal and I left the gap measuring worksheet with the mechanic. Well, he didn't measure the gap and just used the medium shim. I took the old slave and figured out how to remove the spring in front of him, rotating it a little and it easily came out, and he stated he has never had to do this before, hence the I am done with this comment. I wish I would have been able to see how close the slave is to touching the fingers. I kind of want to get one of those scopes and snake that in there to see what is going on with it all together. On the one positive side, the new OEM slave cylinder seems ok with no leaks found inside the bell housing. I can hear the fingers being pushed in when the clutch is pushed in. If shop I talked to doesn't get this thing to work I will toss the "performance" parts and just get an OEM clutch, pressure plate, and resurface the original flywheel. Ridiculous to have all this time and parts sunk into something and it be worse then when the job started. This just confirms my opinion of hydraulic clutch assemblies. This just f*en sucks!

This is true, but the problem now sounds like things have gotten worse, even with the shim? I guess the theory from Spec is that something is bent or otherwise out-of-whack with the pressure plate?

I would very closely examine the clutch plate and pressure plate to make sure everything is straight and true. Something is dragging - clutch plate warped or pressure plate. Or the pressure plate isn't releasing due to some mechanical issue. Also the surface of the flywheel.

Also make sure the clutch disk isn't binding the input shaft.

Is your clutch used? (I originally missed the part about not having the hardware.) This does sound like a problem with the pressure plate and clutch. If you got it from Spec, I would think they could help you check it out and get the proper hardware.

so pulled everything off again. everything looks flat but inspecting the flywheel (brand new) it looks like the disc was dragging on the very outside edge which makes me think even more that having the wrong hardware is the problem. anyways i picked up that monster stage 3 from my buddy. pressure plate has low miles, new disc, resurfaced flywheel and he gave me arp hardware. eating lunch real quick, posting this update then back to torqueing and measuring. got a caliper to measure the gap this time. lol

alright ladies. just got done installing the monster clutch. everything is torqued to monsters specs, measurement "A" was 60.45mm, measurement "B" was 52.45mm so i added 8mm shim. re-installed the trans and stuff, fired it up and went into gear like butter. pedal engagement is a little high so ill have to adjust the master. but think its good. gonna drop the car tomorrow and see if i can get the first little test drive. was starting to get attacked by mosquitos so decided to stop workin on it for the day.

i think im still gonna try and figure out what is wrong with the spec so i can at least have it as a back up.

thanx everyone for all the help and suggestions.

Cograds! I expect the extra washers and over-torquing of the pressure plate. Something on the spec plate must be bent or otherwise out of sorts.

Glad to hear it worked out! How are the pressure plate fingers, are any of them stiffer than the rest? 8mm seems like a lot of shim, did you use longer bolts on the slave due to that?

everything seem to feel fine. yeah found some longer bolts and threw it all together. i was a little iffy on the 8mm too but sat and measured everything for no joke like half an hour. didnt wanna mess with it again. lol

anyways heres a quick video i made. took it up the street real quick. its not tuned and just open headers right now. waitign for my buddy to finish moving so he can build my turbo kit.
