Default Recommend Me A Clutch Please

Mazda RX8 LS swap project. Naturally aspirated, HCI, CAI, True duals through an X-pipe... Heads are ported/polished 706's. I purchased a TKO-600 manual 5 speed for the car. I also purchased the LS specific bellhousing to mount the trans. Engine will make roughly 435HP at the flywheel as it's not a radical build by any means. Which clutch kit do you guys recommend? It will be a daily driver and will NEVER see a track, or racing, of any kind. Just a toy to drive around and sound good. I've seen that there are MANY different choices of clutch. I thought about just buying a 2004 Pontiac GTO factory clutch, and putting it in.. If it held up behind a 6.0L it should hold behind this motor at this power level. The car is going to just barely tip 3000+ lbs. in complete trim so it weighs less than a GTO. Anyways, if anyone can make a recommendation on what clutch to buy-and more specifically what FLYWHEEL I need to work with that clutch, I'd appreciate it.

LS7 clutch, just put one in my car and drives like stock. Especially because of your hp numbers and curb weight, its the perfect candidate.

I'm pricing everything out now. According to an older post on this web site, the LS7 clutch is *very similar/identical* to the Luk clutch kit part #04-173. That Luk kit comes with the flywheel, and can be had for $343.99 + shipping from Summit. Unless anyone posts and says "stay away from that clutch!" I think I'm going to go with it. If I can find a discount code for Summit racing, I might even get a better price than that.

Not sure about that to be honest, I bought mine off Tick Performance's site. It came with the flywheel as well and all the hardware for about $550+ tax.

+1 on the LS7 clutch. A little heavy but the extra weight makes for a very stable engagement.

Luk 04-905 is the one you want if going with the LS7. However, because you are using a Tremec TKO, you need to use the GM 12557583 pilot bearing and not the one that comes with the 04-905 kit.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I ordered the Luk kit the other day and it arrived yesterday. I think it was only 2 days from date of order to receiving it. I will double check the pilot bearing and verify that it will fit the tip of the input shaft on my TKO 600 BEFORE I install it in the end of the crank. Going out now to open the clutch kit.

The issue isn't fitting the input shaft, but where the bearing is located in the crank. The smaller bearing sits further inside the crank than the larger bearing does, and the TKO may not engage the smaller bearing as a result.

The 2004 GTO had the 5.7, not the 6.0. That being said, a factory clutch would hold up to more than you are putting down. In other news, as I believe you have found out, LUK is to clutches as Luxxotica is to sunglasses. One company makes the product for almost everybody.
