B&M Ripper Shifter

or

Pro 5.0 Short Throw Shifter

which is better for the daily/strip/road course?
quieter? smoother? shorter? comfortable (feel/position/stick height)?

Ripper is a lot smoother and quieter, but the Pro 5.0 is much more precise and feels a better IMO. I think the Pro 5.0 stick is a lot more comfortable once it's cut down.

I am going to have to vote for the Pro 5.0.

Either way you go, you can't go wrong. Good luck!

I love my b&m. It feels way better than stock. When I first got my car, I thought the shifter was pretty good, it was much better than my last car (2001 Ford Focus ZX3), but after the b&m it feels much more precise. You can really "feel" it go into gear and the throws are shorter. I have seen pics of Pro 5.0 w/ lss and I think it is just too short. For the track it may be better, but for daily driving, the b&m is a perfect throw length and the feel is excellent. Either route you go, it's way better than stock. I always comment on that every time I drive my gf's 02 Z28, her's is still stock and mine feels so nice when I get into it after driving hers.

B&M here I've had both and I'll never buy another 5.0 JMO.

Generally speaking the drag racing crowd seems to prefer the pro5.0 and the road racing crowd seems to prefer the B&B Ripper. This is a drag race oriented board so I think the poll results will reflect that. Do a poll on a Road race oriented board and the poll will go the other way. I have a B&M Ripper and love it. I've driven a 5.0 equipped car and it felt fine to me, I have nothing bad to say against it. However since my car is for RR and ORR I probably made the best choice for me.

I found the 5.0 to be notchy. The stop bolts they use are not as nice as the actual hardened stops used by B&M. I would never even consider purchasing a Pro 5.0 after driving one, I really disliked it that much. My ripper is much more precise, smooth, and just generally seems to work better. I'll stick with it.

I went one day from a stock shifter(mine)..to a Hurst in an SS..to a Ripper..to installing my Pro 5.0. I liked the Pro 5.0 the best..very precise but you honestly cannot go wrong. But another vote for the Pro 5.0!

I don't think you'll find a good answer on here, because I'm willing to bet most of us have one, but haven't tried the other. Personally, I have a B&M, and I love it compared to the factory Hurst. It is much smoother, and you can tell so much easier when the car is in gear vs. when it isn't. I'd really like to try a 5.0 sometime to see if there is any real difference...

BTW, I've shortened my Ripper 2", and I love it even more.

I've only had one, but going by some opinions of fellow road racers that have had both the Ripper is easier/more consistant when down shifting for corners etc. While I've heard from the drag racing crowd that have had both that the 5.0 is easier to powershift 2-3 . This is 2nd hand information though.

Neither. I've driven pretty much every shifter combo available for an f-body and prefer the Kirban over all of them.

The 2-3 shift for my Pro 5.0 is actually amazing which is obvioulsy the most important shift in the 1/4.

2-3 is easy in the pro 5.0 but ihave a hurst from the factory, cut and bent a short stick, i wouldnt use anything else. 2nd goes in a lot easier than the pro 5.0 and i have no trouble hitting 3rd just as fast as i can in a pro 5.0. its all about how you like it, try and get in some cars that have them.

very true. i have a pro 5.0 with JSS and would not trade it for any other. i have never tried the ripper, but i decided to go with the 5.0 due to the fact that most people told me it had more of a notchy feel than the ripper (which i LOVE) . best thing to do is find people who have each and ask if you can sit in their car and get a feel for them, that way you know which will work best for you
