Stock Clutch w/ heads/cam: how will it hold?
Alright all. I am getting ready to order a h/c setup which should give me around 440hp to the wheels. My question is how the stock clutch will hold up to this setup (yes, I have searched)? Shouldn't it hold up fine for me for some time as long as I am running street tires, as long as I DO NOT run Nitto's, etc? Would I be able to power shift with it?
The reason I am asking is that I am not able to afford a Spec 3 after I have purchased my h/c setup. It will be another month until I could get around to purchasing/installing a clutch. Any help is greatly appriciated!

I am putting 412 to the wheels on a 11K mile Z06 clutch. I can't even bark the 1-2 shift anymore. There are about 30 track passes on the clutch, and aggressive street driving. The clutch still works perfectly fine for normal driving, but I know I am losing a LOT on the track with the slippage, and I will be switching to a SPEC Stage 3F this spring. Track runs were done on Nitto RIIs. I have Kuhmo 712s for the street, can't bark 'em...

well in normal driving it should be alright, but heavy driving will probably kill it pretty quickly. i sprayed a TNT 100 wet shot on my bolt-on ls1 with 50k miles on the stock clutch, never slipped (about 430 hp to the wheels) for about 6 months. now that i just installed a cam i will be stepping up to a 150 shot, but im not going to even get the bottle filled until i do a clutch swap (spec stg 4 ). my sugestion, id do the clutch first (since you say you can't afford to do both). mine handled some good abuse, but from what i've read it seems that is not the average case with stock clutches. it would suck if you do heads/cam then blow the clutch and you have to put the car away until you can afford a clutch swap

Powershifting is a waste of time in ANY street car, etc, IMO.
If you have to powershift then you need to get more power instead of destroying your transmission.

Turo... are you saying that my stock clutch will hold fine on street tires until I can get a spec 3? I have been told yes by a very trusted source (Cannibal), but just wanted to see if anyone has done this. Will I be able to drive it pretty hard with the street tires and it be fine?

Mine ran fine for a while on the stock ZO6 clutch, but not for long after the head and cam swap. I would just do the swap and then use the stock clutch until U can afford the Spec, at least thats what I did. You'll know when its not working for you anymore.

I think it will hold up as long as you don't romp on it too much. Even with street tires on, you'll be putting down some decent power and it's going to be too much for the stock clutch to hold. Just drive it like a grandpa until you get a clutch swap.

My auto zone stock clucth is coming out tomorrow.I replaced it about 6 months ago worked fine untill last week. I put a cam in it at Christmas. I guess the cam killed that clucth. I havent even raced it yet. I'm putting a Stage 4 in tomm.

The clutch WILL hold for NORMAL driving. If you drive the car normally it will hold for a VERY long time b/c you'll never put the clutch through much power.
If you ABUSE the clutch it will fail, period.
No one can give a good estimate as to miles or a time frame it will fail as there are just too many variables.
Just drive the car easy and try to refrain from:
Hot lapping at the track
Launching on anything other than street tires (no Nitto DRs or BFGs, etc)
NO POWERSHIFTING EVER regardless of clutch
If you do want to get on it, granny shift it and roll into a full throttle run instead of just dead punching it. Make the power transition smooth and it's less shock to the drivetrain.
