M6 guys, answer this: Is double-clutching "really" needed with LS1's?
It is not really a big deal but I have got so many different opinions/view-points on this and I still haven't found an answer.
I always rev-match and now double-clutch(not hard) on my big WOT downshifts but I kinda feel like I'm wasting my time double-clutching. I've heard that supposedly it is easier on the T56 synchros/tranny but it is kinda of annoying to have to do it when I just want to do a nice big downshift real quickly.
So, it is really necessary on a modern-day car like the LS1?

wide open downshift? i'd think you would surely hit the rev limiter while doing this AND double clutching.??
i just throw the revs way up and put pressure on the stick and wait for it to find its way home, not jamming it in there.

I was informed that was mostly for truckers b/c most of the "Big-rig" transmissions didn't have sychros.

I've had a few 6spds, but I don't know what double clutching is! Is it what you do when you put in a twin disk clutch?

If I remember correctly the 63 vette was the last vehicle that the owners manual recommended double clutching. Its not been needed since.

Ok, thanks! Obviously, I don't need to waste my time doing it anymore. And no, I've never hit the rev limiter while doing it.

Naw man, I saw it on a movie that you're supposed to do it for MAX performance. I doubt they'd just throw in random BS like that if it weren't true. The guy that won the race said it so he's probably pretty smart about stuff like that.

It is not necessary but the synchros are the weakest point on the T-56s I also double clutch my downshifts just because it feels so much smoother and I know it is easier on everything.

True double clutching isn't even necessary on big trucks (and it certainly isn't necessary on synchronized trannys!) All you have to do in big trucks is match the RPMs and float it in gear. Double clutching is just wear and tear on the clutch plus it's a waste of time. It is, however, mandantory to pass the CDL test even though almost no one in the real world does it.

Not needed, but it certainly does save wear on the syncros, and makes the shift feel so much nicer/smoother.
