Default Help, car won't go in any gear!!

I have a 02 ws6 with a spec stage 3 clutch. I have had no problems with the clutch till now. (6000 miles on it) I was doing a burnout yesterday and after warming up my tires, i couldn't get the car to go back in gear. Any gear. I was able to once get it in first (forcing hard) and it drove fine while in gear, but when i tried to shift into second...no go and i couldn't get it to go back in gear again. I can put it in gear while the car is turned off...but if i try to start the car, clutch in, and the car in gear..it won't crank. It is like the clutch is not engaging. Does anyone know what it might be?? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Jeff

check your hydraulic fluid, I have a leaking slave cylinder and when the fluid is the low the car wont shift at all. Dont force it into gear or out of gear, thats not good for the synchros.

the hyraulic resivoir to check your level is under the hood above the break booster on the drivers side. Your clutch hyraulic use brake dot 3 fluid...

good luck, hope that helpts

I checked the fluids...no leak, all fluids are full. So, i guess that it's a good thing that i don't have a leak, but bad that it is something else. argh!

either you got some air in the system, or the clutch weld it self on the flywheel or pressure plate, heard some spec with that problem

If the disk did weld to the FW, it is easy to check. I know this from experience. The trans will shift just fine with the engine off. If you try and start the car in gear it will move.

The disk did weld to the flywheel. You were right steve. I think my options are to resurface the flywheel and repair the disk, or get a new clutch. (hopefully spec will help me with that..it only has 3k miles on it)
Suggestions??

Been there and did that. My 4F welded itself with 900 miles on it. There have been a rash of problems like this. Call SPEC but ... Don't hold your breath. 120 day warantee.

Here is the fix per SPEC.

Have someone sit in the car and push the clutch in with the trans in 2nd gear. Rock the car back and forth until the disk breaks free. Put another 100 - 200 miles on it and you should be good to go. Yeah Right.

I had to pull the trans ut of mine and beat the disk hub with a 5 lb rubber mallet to break it loose. We tried their fix and rocked the car so hard we were turning the motor over. It did not work for me but might for you.

Good luck.

Mine is doing almost the same thing right now with a centerforce dual. It will not shift and when you start it in gear it wants to move you can feel it grabbing a little. Does that mean mine is f*cked too, or will it be the hyd? Thanks

Just curious, how much drag racing do you do on your centerforce and is it a daily driver?

With all of this crap I here about Spec it is making me wonder. Look at all of the trouble with the m6 period. I haven't heard anyone bashing centerforce so I think I know what clutch I will buy in the near future. Having the parts on hand before the problem makes itself known is the only way to go.

When i looked into clutches, i didn't hear anything about spec's doing this. But now i see that i'm not the only one. I am going to try to re-use the clutch and fly...i took it to my mechanic and he said it was parts defect. Something about the clutch not being made right, which causes pieces of the clutch disk to come loose, stick to the fly..and "weld" the clutch disk to the fly. Or something to that extent.

I just want something durable that will take my occasional hairy burnout through 1st and 2nd with a good 3rd scratch. Pedal pressure doesn't matter. After all what good is 400 ponies if you can't use em or you constantly have to wrench you ride?

Add me to the list, looks like my Spec 3 welded itself to either the flywheel or PP. Locked up on me at the track on my 2nd pass, while going to do a 1-2 shift. Tried to start the car with the clutch in and trans in first, and it lurched itself forward. Car would shift with proper rev matching. Actually ended up driving home 80 miles from the track like this. I didn't see there was a reccomendation from spec for breaking the disk loose. I'm basically considering it shot regardless, probably looking towards a Textralia replacement, or the Clutchmasters.
