Default Rebuild my tranny or buy a built one ?????

Which should I do???? I want the tranny to handle 550 ft/lbs of torque

If I rebuild, what parts do I need, and from who.

If I just buy it, what company should I go with?

you can buy them from www.ls1speed.com they are a little pricey. Or you can order parts from d&d (http://ddperformance.com/t56_partsupgrades.htm)...typical labor at shops is $250. d&d also sells them (http://ddperformance.com/t56__6_spee...nsmissions.htm)

I've heard that the D&D trannys aren't basically a stock tranny.

Eric rebuild it. Go talk to your local GM dealer, ask for the tranny guy up their. See if he would be interested in rebuilding it on the side. A local guy here can do it for 300 labor and u buy the parts. You can get the parts from Southern Gear, or D&D and save some money.

They have tranny's for 500rwtq for $2000.
Just an FYI the stock tranny is not rated to 550rwtq. So if you want it rated to that you need to get it built to handle, not a stock replacement.

So.... lets say I rebuild it... Lets say I get the parts form D&D... what parts do I need? Do I need the viper output shaft conversion? I figure I need everything except for the gears and the viper output shaft. I may need gears, I'll have to wait until I see the gears that are currently in.

You should be able to run 550rwtq with a rebuilt tranny, using carbon fiber blockers and steel 3-4 shift fork. I don't see the need for the viper input/output shaft until you are over 600rwtq

Sounds fine...I don't know if you will need all that though. I just had my tranny rebuilt and I used the synchro rebuild kit, steel 3-4 shift fork, and i needed the 3-4 synchro assymbley cause mine was screwed up. I don't see why this wouldn't hold 550rwtq.
