RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??

RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
I'm thinking of getting a RAM VDS and I hear a lot of people are putting in the 6130's (sintered bronze, metallic button, paddle discs) and getting good driveability. I'm wondering about the 900 series (sintered iron, solid round) disc??? The RAM catalog says the 900 series is "engineered to provide a limited amount of 'slip' on engagement" and "with minimal amount of chatter", whereas the 6000 series will "engage very aggressively and will cause clutch chatter" This seems logical from just looking at the differences between the two designs. Even though people seem to be having success with the 6130, I'm leaning toward the 900 series since RAM says it's got better inherent driveability. Comments? Anybody running a 900?

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
I believe the 900 disc will mess up the stock flywheel pretty bad. You will have to get a billet steel one. RAM also makes a disc that is organic on one side and iron on the other. I think the organic is on the flywheel side. Send an email to RAM...they can explain it to you.

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
How much power are you looking to hold???
There is a 300 series disc that does quite well in a stock to light mod car. Holds up to ET streets as well when using the 402 PP w/ it.
If you've got some serious power, get the 6130. You WILL learn to drive it w/o chatter.
As for the billet flywheel, i don't believe it. My stock flywheel showed less wear than the RAM 402 PP when i swapped out the first one. I'd rather spend $40 to have the flywheel resurfaced than dump money on a billet flywheel.
BTW i run the 6130, 70 miles round trip to work every day in traffic. You learn to drive w/o chatter

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
I just installed the 402/6130 combo yesterday. I only have about ten miles so far on the clutch, but it feels like it hits MUCH harder than my Cartek did. Some of that could be due to the drill out mod, but the clutch also seems to have less chatter than the Cartek. I can slip it in traffic if I need to or drop it and it flat grabs .
BTW Harlan, thanks for the recommendation on the 402/6130 over the VDS. I needed a cheap replacement for my Cartek.

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
Thanks for the info. I only have a lid and catback now so I know I could go with the organic, but I want overkill for future mods. I'm going to replace the hydraulics (Mcleod MC and GM slave) and go with a billet FW and metallic disc. My only question is which one. I did speak with a RAM tech. I'm just wondering if anyone has any driveability comments for the 900? (I'd welcome more 6130 opinons too) Thanks again and TGIF!

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
Another vote here for the 6130. Although I have light mods, I went ahead and stepped up to the plate and got the heavy hitter! I'm glad I did to, because I can't see this thing ever slipping! Oh, and as far as driveability is concerned, 60 miles roundtrip everyday, and it behaves perfectly fine!

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
Hey Mark, was your Cartek slipping after the head/cam package? Mine held up great at the track last night. My worst 60ft was a 1.79 and a best of 1.72 out of 6 runs.

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
Yep, I have the 300 series disc/402 pp with the resurfaced stock flywheel. Harlan did most of the swap work, I took most of the pics.
Going for high 11's as soon as the tracks open back up. I would say I'm in the 340-360 hp range. I have had zero problems so far. I went from 2.0 60's to 1.7 60's with it on ET's.

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
How long did you have the CarTek for?? I am planning on installing one soon. Was the chatter bad? How much did your RAM run you if you don't mind me asking. Is the Ram a better clutch? Did you keep the CarTeck adj Master and slave cylinders? Looking for a new clutch, and really don't feel like spending a lot of money on a product when I can spend less for one that is the same or better. Thanks..Michael

Re: RAM GUYS! Clutch Disc??
I had my Cartek for about 6 months. It was mostly my fault that it went bad so quickly (see my other post). The chatter was not that bad. It just took a little change it driving style. I kept the hydaulics, they are still fine. I like the RAM better just because of the price.
