Default clutch pedal return spring

Do I really need this spring? (clutch pedal return spring - GM 10278874).
It sits on top of the clutch pedal and mine is broken.

I can't tell how it feels without it because it came with a tranny swap kit (A4 to M6) so right now I don't know if I have to buy one or not.

you dont need it but it helps you push the pedal in.....it starts to pull after about halfway down, so up top you wouldnt notice....it would just be harder to push thats all...

There is a spring inside the master cylinder. My pedal spring has been out ever since I put my Textralia in and I have had no problems.

so what is the function of that spring?
It's not strong enough to help pushing the pedal. is it maybe to help it coming back?

It's a dual purpose spring. At the top of the pedal travel the spring pushes up, but about halfway through the travel it breaks over and pushes down on the pedal. Some people say the spring helps you hold the pedal down, personally I can't feel a differance in the pedal pressure.

I was told to remove the spring to help eliminate the clutch pedal sticking to the floor.

I have yet to do that.

I just replaced mine the other day. It had been broken for over a year now with no problems. Apparently they break often and a lot of people just leave them off. Only reason I did replaced mine was because I had one off of a friends car who swapped to auto. But be damn sure you want that spring in there before you go to installing it...its not fun to do at all...I'd say if you decide to do it, just go ahead and pull out the pedals instead of trying to do it up under the dash...much easier that way.
