How are you shifting the car? You want to be as high in the RPMs as possible so you're closer to your powerband after the shift, but you don't want to hit the rev limiter at any time.

If the car is stock, shift as close to redline without hitting the limiter. When mine was stock, I mean stock, I shifted right at 6k with great results. Now that I have a few mods, it revs faster, so I have to shift a bit sooner on the 1-2 shift. Trial and error will find out how well your tach keeps up. Get a shiftlite and you'll be good to go.

Totally agree there, that is the ticket. Experment w/ it & figure out the optimal shift point.

i did a few logs on hp tuners that how i know i was shiftin that high and my car was flyin

shift as high as you can without hitting the limiter

i set my shiftlight to 5800 and shifted 1-2 when i saw the light
2-3 a lil after the light
3-4 even more after the light

i say that it varies by car/mods, your best bet would be to get it dyno tested, and set a shift light to 100 rpm before power starts to drop off, if reaction time is good, yous hould be shifting right as your power is starting to drop off back into near top horsepower

Stock car 5800 if you shift fast, 6K if not. Depends how far your rpm's drop between shifts.

Whats worked for me on a stock LS1 has been 1-2 shift at 5k and the 2-3 and 3-4 at 5500 rpm. With second gear being so short it seems to pull a bit longer in second if ya hit it that 500 revs sooner.

Depending on your modifications ... you should get your car on a dyno and see where it stops making power. I used to shift around 5700 until I got on the dyno and saw it was spinning right up to 6100 rpms...that's where I'm at now. I set the shift light around 6000-6100...sometimes try something different to see what works best.

In my brother's 01 ws6 with a lid and catback (328 rwhp) I shift just at the needle crosses 6k and my best time is a 12.958@109. I've tried shifting into 2nd at 5800 rpm and my best time doing that is 13.11@108.66.
In my car, I have to shift out of first when the tach reads 6000 beacuase it starts bouncing off the rev limiter (6500) if i wait any longer. I need a shift light.

Mine hits the limiter at 6K in first, so I shift 1-2 at 5600, 2-3 at 5800, and 3-4 at 6000. This is the only way I can stay off the limiter. The tack is really slow in first.
