Drag Racers What clutch over 400RWHP?
Guys my clutch is gone. I've done tons of research comparing my situation to others. My hydrolics seem fine. And I'm not boiling the fluid in the lines. I am 90% sure the pressure plate is gone, since I was launching kind of high on drag radials with over 400 rwhp. The clutch would never really grip at the launch which would explain my crappy 2.0-2.1 60ft. i was running 12.7@119 (lmao, that time should be good for some solid 11's if I could launch.)
I have done lots of research on clutches. I am looking to spend no more than $1000. I hear mixed reviews about all clutches. Textralia and Mcleod seem to be the top dogs in terms of reliability and durability. I hear good things about SPEC 3 and up. All other clutches get mixed reviews.
My car is a daily driver and I go to the 1/4 mile track about twice a month where I run 5-7 passes. On what clutch do you guys think I should put my money on?

So far my Textralia has seen 100+ launches in the 4000lb GTO with 285/35/18 nitto drag radials. I only put it in about 3k miles ago, so I don't know how long it will last, but it has no slip. This is turboed with approx. 600rwtq. BTW, I don't have as many full passes as launches, because the damn gto is so difficult to launch well. It takes a lot of practice to stay in that tiny window between spin and bog.

I ran a Ram setup, 910 disc with the 402 pp, and I loved it at the track. 5500-5800 rpm launches and held every time! Daily driving it kinda chattered before I put the 4.30's in but other than that it served me very well.

For that kind of money could you ask for better than the Textralia? Holds 700+ HP and drives like stock with minimal to no chatter reported from all users on this board who have the setup.

Textralia in my opinion over spec..i have no personal experiance with a ram or mcleod so i can not comment on those.
-no chattering
-drives like a stock clutch...its apleasure be stuck in rush hour traffic with this thing
-hold the power (550+rwhp and 600+rwtq here with over 40 track passes on nittos and i have 4000 miles on it so far.
-i havent seen anyone yet thats had one fail on them prematurely on the few boards that i browse.
-worth every penny in my opinion.

I'm using Centerforce DF since '98 with McLeod MC and drill mod. Not a problem one. I change the clutch fluid every 20K. It gets brown fast the way I drive. Doing a lot of burnouts at the track really heats that fluid up.
However, I am only pushing 360rwhp out of my car.

Ram Powergrip HD....
1) relatively cheap
2) reliable
3) strong
4) stiff, but not too stiff
5) can be slipped(unlike the mcleod)
6) is readily availible
P.S.-i went through 3 centerforce DF's before i figured out they were a little ondermade to handle 400+ hp and serrious shifting.

cartek clutch, very good clutch i got it in my 408 vette with a mccloed master, i beat the hell out of it and it just grabs yet it has very smooth engagement on the street, i had the Ram's and they chatter like a ****, and when you have a big cam like me and you need to give it a little more gas taking off normally from a stoplight it shakes the whole car, the cartek has 3800 psi pressure plate , but it has a light pedal even with the mccloed master, call cartek and ask them some more.

i had a z06 and a centerforce, neither last long at all,1000mi. i had the ram 910 and 980 and they both lasted less then 2,500mi and less then 50 passes on motor.my spec st3 only lasted 1,200 to 1,500mi then started sliping, but that was also after 1.3 60's on the n.o.s and 1.4's motor. so now i'm looking into a twin disc set up in hopes to keeping a clutch in longer. out of all these clutches the spec i could still drive the car after it went,i just could'nt floor it. the rams just blew where i had to get the car on a flat bed. the spec took nos runs where the rams were only motor runs.
