Is traction with Nitto 555r's worth the risk of a dead 10-bolt?

Default Is traction with Nitto 555r's worth the risk of a dead 10-bolt?

Pretty much all in the title. I'm thinking about getting a set of Nitto 555r's. The "problem" is that I have 444 hp and 408 ft. lbs., so I'm awfully worried about blowing up the rear. Like most of us damn Camaro owners, I can't afford a 12-bolt

It would be really nice to be able to get traction on the streets. With my BFG KDW's, I literally cannot hit boost without breaking the tires loose. It was kind of funny at first, but now it's REALLY annoying

The car will also see its fair share of track time. And with an M6, I don't really have a great feeling about the rear-end.

So what do you think about getting these tires? My rear has lasted me 60 passes so far on street tires, cutting 1.9x's. It has 3.73's and seems to be running pretty strong. Do I take a lot of risk by getting the 555r's?

Your opinion is wanted

If you are cutting 1.9s on street tires and the rear has held up, I'd keep doing that and save for a 12 bolt/9".

Traction is gonna get the best of your 10bolt eventually. 555r's will help speed that process.

do you have to worry about breaking a 10 bolt on the fly, or just when launching?

I say go for it and when you blow up the rear you have in there now just buy a used 10 bolt for a few hundred.

Nittos are only so sticky. With the power you have, especially on the street, you will easily break them loose before you have enough traction to grenade your 10 bolt. Now, if that therefore causes wheelhop, well your 10 bolt will be toast before long.

i say...save alittle first b/c with the power ur makin like said earlier...it will eventually go...im in the process of saving for a 12 bolt as well....buying Nittos will get ya more traction but whos to say that ur 10 wouldnt go the first launch u made on those new tires....id say save because its hell to move that thing once the rear is gone....lol

I have a little less power and spin the Nittos like mad on the street. My 10-bolt is fine after 4 years.

This is especially true in cold weather. You may have a better chance of breaking a 10 bolt on good all season tires on the street in the cold than on Nittos!

My rear was fine before until I changed to the Mcleod clutch, 4.10s and nittos. I've since gone through 3 differentials in the past 4 months. My car only pulls 1.8s and I don't dump the clutch.
