Unless you have big mods, 4.10s all the way - no question. I was worried it was going to be to much gear, but NO! You get so much torque from the 4.10s, but you can still get the gas mileage because we DO have 6 gears.
3.73s PROS: Drives similar to stock, slightly faster CONS: Spending $600 bucks that might give you a tenth?
4.10s PROS: Lotsa torque! Worth a couple tenths and MPH if you can hook. FUN! CONS: ... ??? 2k crusing RPM on the interestate? Basically no cons... expect its possible you can get a little gearwhine.

Re: What gears for a M6
Come on guys tells him the real problem. Adding lower gears(3.73,4.10) weakens the already CRAP Chevy S-10 10 bolt in our cars. Save your $600. and get a 12 bolt with some 4.10s. If you get the gears now and grenade the ten bolt then rebuild it your into $1200.00 at least or upgrade after you install these gears then you're into about $3600 rather then $2500.00 for a 12 bolt now!

Re: What gears for a M6
I would have to say 4.10's as well, the rearend is going to go no matter what if you have sticky tires and 5k clutch dumps, gears don't make that much a difference, I drove my friend's camaro with 3.37's and I didn't like it, not much of anything over stock. The 4.10's are like night and day, you never have to shift into 5th to pass people on the freeway . Gas mileage was almost unaffected, the only way I'd go with 3.73's is if I was getting a power adder (supercharger/turbo) or running nitrous. Get the 4.10's you won't be disappointed.

Well, what about at the track? Aren't you out of the powerband with a basically stock car wtih 4:10's in the quarter?
Stupid question? Let me know.....

With a drag radial (~25.8" tire) you are good up until about 115 mph in the 1/4. I was running 116mph with boltons and 4.10s. I had to raise my rev-limiter up to 6500 to get through the traps off of the limiter. After ~6200 the stock vavletrain really begins to fall on its face. Going to a slightly larger tire (~26.0 to 26.5") will give you a little more room without killing your 60' times. IMO there is no better gear for a NA M6 car than the 4.10s. I'm running 4.11s now and a 26.1 inch tire with my heads and cam. I am just hitting the 6600 rpm limiter at the traps. When I finally get the programming sone to raise the limiter to 6800 it will no longer be a problem.
BTW; Not a stupid question. Powerband in the 1/4s is what its all about
