Default New Clutch...which one?

Folks,
Ive read the horror/success storys of various clutches, now its time to put a new one in. Car is an 04 CTSV (T56) with an LS2 Longblock making apx 475 RWHP. It is my daily driver and has 45K miles on it now...so I need this clutch to be a highway cruiser as well as the occasional sprinter. Im thinking LS7 Clutch w/LS2 flywheel. Any suggestions?

THanks,

F

I really like my LS2 flywheel/LS7 Clutch combo. Pedal is barely more than stock, it is silky smooth around town and it grabs great. If you are at 475 at the rear wheels, you could be pushing it some since the Z06 is 505 at the flywheel and around 450 at the rear wheels. Plus your heavier car will be harder on it.

Florian,

I'm in the same boat shopping around for a clutch. I'm not nearly where you are now in terms of power but it's in the works. What's required to run the LS7 clutch? Any reason for not using the LS7 flywheel?

I would go for a centerforce dual friction clutch. They have a new option they came out with that not many people know about. You can get a 12" disc instead of the regular 11". This increases the holding power by a lot!! And Will Baty will make sure that you are satisfied with it 100%. Do a search on him here and you will see what i mean. I am in college and on a tight budget so great customer service is a must for me and Will makes sure that if something isn't right he will make it right no matter what! Good luck and i hope i helped out!

No problem. i can't tell you which is a better choice. I just know i was extremely impressed with how much Will Baty was willing to do to make sure i got the right clutch for the job and that i was nothing but 110% satisfied! I dont have many miles on my centerforce yet (1200) but i absolutely love it so far! And no matter which clutch you look at people are going to say good and bad things about ALL of them! And if you do a search on centerforce dont even pay attention to the people who had the 11" disk, b/c that is the old design. Good luck with your searching!

Just give it time.....they haven't been out long enough yet! Everyone has there own opinion on each clutch. I personally almost bought the LS7/LS2 combo but like i said before the customer service is what pointed me to the centerforce dual friction.

What's better about the LS2 flywheel over the LS7?

From personal experiance with RAM, i'd go with their powergrip hd... but if I had the cash, I'd go with the LS7 clutch in a heartbeat or textrailia. One question though - how did an LS2 longblock get in your originally LS6 shortblock V?

took out the LS6, put in an LS2 motor with all sorts of goodies. I chose to build an LS2 vs rebuilding the LS6 from scratch. I was able to build one at a great price with everything I wanted...except for clutch, which is why Im here.

where exactly can you buy a dual friction with the 12 inch disc vs 11? PM me please with info cause search is not working.

I used to have the 11 inch and I really liked it, I am taking out my spec V cause I don't want it to blow up on me although I do like its street manners also.

Yah i hear ya on the spec blowin up. I'm not saying spec is a bad product but there have been WAY too many horror stories lately of clutches "blowing up"

PM sent!
