GM Flywheel weights
Thanks for the help.
Now if you want to run the new LS7 Clutch, you need the LS2 Flywheel that comes in the Vette and it weighs around 27 pounds. I have had the LS7 flywheel/clutch and I really like it.
" SLP's lightweight steel billet flywheel for LS1-equipped GM cars weighs 8 lbs. less than the stock cast iron flywheel. Less reciprocating weight means faster revs and the engine climbs into the power band quicker. You'll see significantly lower 0-60MPH times and lower 1/4 mile ET's. You'll feel the difference! This flywheel is manufactured from billet steel, much stronger than the factory cast iron piece, and is a "must" for higher horsepower cars. This flywheel is a direct bolt in replacement for the LS1-equipped Camaro and Firebird."
Just one of many
I believe Textralia's is 18 lbs

I wouldn't do that. If you lighten a cast iron flywheel, it could come apart at speed and take off your legs. It's just not worth the risk. If you want a lighter flywheel, buy an SFI approved billet steel or aluminum one.
However, a heavier flywheel helps out in the 1/4 mile because you can launch it harder. A lighter flywheel does help out on a road race car where launching is not a concern.
