Thumbs down SPEC is dead

My Spec Stage I went up in smoke this evening with less than 5K miles on it.

No trips to the track, no big street clutch dumps. Just wanted to get off the line at a light very quickly, let the clutch out and floored it & the clutch took a dump.

There just aren't words to express my sincere thanks for high quality and durable SPEC product that took hours and hours to install and is now JUNK as I guess it was from the very beginning, after only 4800 miles.

My Sincere Thanks.

I seem to hear a lot of bad stories about Spec clutches lately. I had one in a Mustang and it was crap too. Perhaps people will stop buying them and send a message.

It is essentially a stock 02 ss. M6, 3.42 gear, SLP air lid, free ram air, bump stop mod, crane/vhp 1.8 rockers & a tune. I haven't been to a dyno.

The car runs fairly strong but loosing a clutch under these conditions with so few miles is ridiculous.

I guess I'll look at an upgrade to the LS7 or maybe just go back to the Z06 config. I've had my fill of aftermarket crap.

The OEM Z06 lasted 34K and it was smoothe. This aftermarket stuff basically sucks. I put up with 1K miles of ridiculous chatter and continual chatter in reverse, and then it just gives out. That's BS. If the OEM stuff were not any better than this aftermarket stuff, there'd be a class action law suit against GM.

I just remembered that I had a new RAM disc laying around so I just ordered a new friction surface for my aluminum Fidanza and a new RAM PP with ARP bolts for the flywheel & PP.

I could have gone a cheaper route with the Z06 parts but the RAM disc is made out of heavier material and is less likely to fragment and my Fidanza is SFI rated. I won't have the parts until late February and that's ok because it'll probably be more likely I'll have warmer temps to do the work. And I guess I'll go ahead and put my 4.11's in when I do the clutch. If I feel real ambitious, maybe I'll put my 02 Z06 heads on too.

The decision is made!

heres the kicker for me, i ran a spec stg 3 for 9000 miles and 6000 of those miles with 450 rwhp....and i never had a problem...then i sold it to a friend, and it still grabs hard....now i went back to a six speed in my car..put in a spec stg. 3 and i romp it 3/4 throttle after a good healthy break-in...and it just smokes up... it didnt even feel like the same clutch..it didnt chatter bad, even those first couple hundred miles...it drove like a stg 1 or 2.....it just pisses me off when this **** costs 400 bucks and 4 hours labor

Quality Control simply cannot be very good. For there to be a failure on the odd occasion would not be out of the ordinary, but the failures with some of the aftermarket clutch manufacturer parts is far too frequent.

I feel your pain.
