Default M6 Driving tips

Recently I have been doing a lot of roll racing in my car and Im always lost on what gear to shift into when slowing down. What I want to know is what you guys recommend shifting into(the gear) depending on the speed. Im really not good at downshifting and just want to know what gear you guys would drop it into say if youre going to go from a 25 MPH roll etc... Any good launch techniques while rolling? To get a bit of a better start instead of just going WOT.

Im getting a lot better at driving, but Im still relatively a noob

25mph equals 1st gear and on the street there is no need to rev the motor and drop the clutch unless your on a sticky tire

0-30 mph = 1st
30-60 = 2nd

-this is with stock 3.42 gears
-no need to roll race starting in 3rd gear, so i just gave ya 1st and 2nd.
-and when downshifting, do it slowwwly. if ur in 2nd around 25-30 and wanna downshift to 1st, dont just put it in first and pop the cluch out, thats terrible on the tranny. put the clutch in....move the shifter to 1st position, and slowly relase the clutch. good luck man.

At 65 mph I revmatch and drop to 2nd. And yes, you can do roll races from 3rd gear. I do them on the parkways from 75-130. It's all about the conditions and what the two people running want to do.

As for the guy that said to slowly let out the clutch....well if you revmatch properly when you let the clutch out everything will be spinning at as close to the same speed and it will be smooth as silk.

Here's an example of how I do a 65 roll run: Clutch pedal in and while I am moving the shifter over to 2nd I simultaniously rev the car to approxiamately 4500 and then at the same time that I let the clutch out fast and the car begins to propel forward again I mash the pedal the rest of the way down. This is one heck of a rush and if done right is smooth as an auto downshifting....but be prepared for the rearend to break loose on you...happens to me more times than not

0-40 - 1st
40-65 - 2nd

Basically, make sure you are always above 3.5k AT LEAST when roll racing. I usually am around 4k. Practice rev-matching! For example, get up to 45mph, press in clutch, drop it in 2nd, rev it until you hit 3.5k, let the clutch out, floor it and hold on!

Swwwweeeettt. Yea I kind of have the revmatching on lock and do it with relative ease.

One more question, at what RPM's do you guys recommend launching from a dig? Such so that it is as easy on the clutch and rearend but still not bog out and just fly

With my car having the limiter set at 6800 and still on stock 3.42's my 2nd gear ends around 85mph, so Ill go back to 2nd gear up to 75mph. 1st gear just dosent work for me from a roll.

X2 When racing from a roll get to a speed and gear that has you sitting in the 4500-5000rpm range. Our power curve is ultra strong there as peak torque is arriving. I've started roll races as high as 6000rpms but it requires a very quick and clean 2-3 shift to be effective.

A lot of numbers being thrown around with no consideration to rear gear ratio. 25 mph to first might work for a 3.42, another story for someone with 4.11's.

My advice would be to drive the car and get used to it. You don't have to wait til you're racing.

www.f-body.org/gears/

this is an awesome tool, i have it marked as a favorite as it's very useful.
basically you choose your car's tranny at the top left, along with the tire size,
it calculates diameter for you. then you can change your rear end gear ratio
and rev limiter. I actually got this from this site, so hopefully it's appropriate.
give it a shot

Whatever your gear start out at start at 4K - 4200. Being an M6 you will be able to pull hard up till 6200 then shift. An auto will run out of steam around 5900 so right there you will put about 1/2 to 3/4 of a car on them. Then they will make up a little on thier auto shift vs your manual shift. But in the end most M6 will maintain a steady pull on an auto from what i've seen given they are equals. If your racing another M6 its a drivers race.

when i launch at the track, I ease out the clutch at 1500, anything above 1700, and i'll spin (02 WS6 stock, kumho street tires). However, the car launches awesome, but after the first 2 feet it stumbles for a fraction of a second, then comes alive. Any advice (BTW what is the point of no return for blowing the stock rearend at a launch?? like 4000? or what)

Going to a SVT track meat at the end of April, havent run since last year.
Best to date 13.5 at like 107mph about 97 degrees

I guess if you dump at 4k or above you'll start breaking stuff. Try a 2k feather clutch, if you spin, try 1.7k etc

How exactly do you feather the clutch? Ive tried it but bog out, and its annoying. Doesnt hit full power until maybe 2.5 RPM and then I break the sound barrier

I already snapped an axle during a burn out warming up my tires at the track. I dumped it at 3K in 2nd POP! Now im am paraniod and just ease or roll into it on the launch i don't dump or feather.

when you hold the rpm at 2.5k, make sure it does NOT drop below 2.5k when you start moving.
