I recently just finished auto to 6speed swap and went with the Mcloeod twin disc. So far it is quiet and the pedal feel's good.Hold's the power great.

Uhhhh 8-15K mile life expectancy? Is that correct? What a FING JOKE that is. Why is it nobody seems to be able to actually build a decent clutch nowdays? My father had nothing but performance cars and all of them had manual trans and he raced every one of them every weekend and never replaced one before he reached 100K and thats on the stock factory clutch.

He went ballistic when my clutch went out at 60K the other day and I have never run my SS hard or raced it. I myself will never buy another car with a manual trans. I have an LS7 clutch going in right now and in 2-3 years I am selling my SS and getting a new extended cab duramax diesel K2500HD.

Great idea for a thread. Does the LS7 seem to hold the best out of all the listed clutches?

Well. I read somewhere that the 8-15k is under "spirited racing" mixed with daily driving.

It won't hold up? have you seen this happen? or have you owned this clutch? Even for someone with 400 wheel? i would imagine it being able to hold that since gm designed it for a car with a base hp of 505. and atleast some who own the car having the intention of adding slicks or other modifications. Please help I don't want to purchase the wrong clutch.

Ok, after reading all the review, I am still stumped! I have a 2000 SS Camaro which is all stock except for a factory installed corvette exhaust. It was dyno @ 345HP at the engine.

I still have the stock clutch, LS1, but I am having synchro trouble and the tranny is going to be serviced. I thought, to save in labor, I'd get the clutch switched since I have 86k on the car.

I have some money, but don't want to spend the lot if you know what I mean. I am an enthusiast, not an extremist! Anyways, I have read a lot about LS7 with LS2 flywheel. Do you have to change out the master or slave cyl.? (sorry, I'm not much of a gear head, you really have to spell it out for me

For $450.00, I found a LS6 clutch kit with flywheel...is that a good deal/ good clutch kit?

Thanks for any advice!!!

The LS7 clutch kit is cheaper and stronger. The LS7 clutch kit is $399 at Scoggen Dickey. While your in there it would be stupid in my oppinion not to replace the slave cylinder and the master cylinder.

You need

Clutch kit
Pilot bearing
master cylinder
slave cylinder (comes with throw out bearing)

WOW...That totals $917.71 for all that, plus shipping!!!! Based on the threads, I inlcuded the LS2 flywheel too. That seems like a ton more than some of the other setups....?

What about going with the LS6 Clutch kit (disk, pp, flywheel) for like $450 ? Would I still need to replace my master and slave cylinders? $450 sounds much more affordable without getting the worst for the car, right?

Thanks,
Brad

Uhhh where did you come up with that much money? It only comes up to $690 plus shipping which isnt to much. With that many miles on your car it would be retarded not to replace the slave cylinder and master cylinder. My slave just went bad at 59,000 so while I was in there i replaced everything.

LS7 Clutch Kit-----------$399.99
Clutch Alignment tool----$6.89
LS2 Flywheel------------$221.20
LS2/LS7 pilot bearing----$12.51
Master Cylinder---------$145.39
Slave Cylingder---------$131.73
Total-------------------$917.71

You total is not including the LS2 Flywheel or alignment tool. The site is not specific on what is included with the LS7 clutch kit, so I am just being over compensating.

*****EDIT*****
Ok, I called the company, the LS7 clutch it includes the LS2 flywheel!!! That really a great price for the clutch and flywheel! I really appreciate all of your help!!! I think I found the clutch for me!

Brad

So whatever happened to all the ls7's installed back in 06? they must have been put through some punishment by now. I would like to know how long they last w/ daily driving and some occasional 5k launches at the track. Right now im torn between ls7, textralia or the spec 3+ to replace my worn spec 3 that only lasted ~8k mi. I want a clutch that will last me AT LEAST 20k miles and be able to take 5k dumps at the track.

1st clutch with heads and cam - LS6 lasted 5K miles
2nd clutch with 383 stroker - Spec 3 lasted 15Kmiles until I redline shifted from 3rd to 6th
3rd clutch with stroker - Spec 4 lasted 5K miles when the slave seal let go and the clutch got full of oil. Still managed to get another 2K miles out of it even though it slipped on take off it would grab at higher RPMs.
4th clutch going in today - Spec 3+. I am anxious to see how it performs since it is rated higher than the Stage 4.

Where are you getting your information a guy in the ausie board just got 65,000km on his that translates to 40,389 miles and his is just starting to go out. There are guys here with over 14,000+ miles on them and having no signs of trouble.

I just put mine in and it is an awesome clutch. Pedal feel is almost stock and grabs like there's no tomorrow.

At 57K, I'm still on the factory 99 - SS clutch.

The engine puts down about 380hp, but I never dump the clutch and my wife does not drive the car.

For street cars, clutches are designed to last the life of the car. (I can say this since I was a professional transmission builder in a past life!)

I've owned about 12 or so manual transmission cars (Vettes, F-bodies, ricers, etc.) and I have never had to replace a single factory clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing, slave cylynder, master, etc.

Don't get me wrong - I get on the car plenty; but I never abuse the clutch. I attribute this to learning how to properly drive a stick from the early daze.

I suppose if I ever need to replace the unit I will go with the LS7.

Dibs on the T56 .

Using a SPEC Stage 2 in the LT1/T56 280Z, no issues thus far but still have other issues that keep the car off the road for now.

In my LT4 Turbo TA, I have a SPEC Stage 3 (? I think it is a 3- it has been a while) with the carbon disc. 498 RWHP/579TQ with a Rodney Bulletproof T56 & Moser 12 bolt & 315/35 radials. A few hard launches, no problems at all.

Using an "Ebay Special" (thread was here some time ago) multi-puck disk & accompaning plate in the Supra (stock LM7 5.3L/TKO600), no issues, but only 285 HP.

Using an LS6 on the RX7 (L33 5.3L w/ Z06 cam), also no issues.

Still working on the setup for the BMW (turbo L33/T56). I'm buying a 2002 T56 W/ 30K mile LS6 clutch. I don't see any problems using this as the car will not be launched hard due to the 4.10 open diff currently there. I need to upgrade this to a larger LSD, but may not be able to find one.

The original LS6 clutch is in the car and I have an LS7 to go in when I get off my lazy behind. Car has 56000 miles on it and over 60 track passes. Only problem is that it is near the floor at the end of a 1/4 mile pass now. Still holds fine.
