Will An A4-M6 Conversion Be Worth It? Just looking for some input...I have a 99 T/A A4 and would like to convert to a M6...just wondering what yall's opinions are as far as A4 vs. M6 in things such as reliability, cost, (M6 is of course more fun to drive), and anything else anyone wants to bring up. Post away...
It really depends on what you plan to do with the car. If your wanting to build a straight line car. Leave the A4 and get a T/C. Its much easier on a drive train at the track and you will probably end up with a faster e/t. However if you do auto-x or road racing it may be better to have an m6. But the conversion is such a bitch to do and so costly thats its almost better to sell your damn car and get one with an m6 if thats what you really want.
IMO...Definetely worth it. I did the swap and have not looked back since. I was getting bored with my stalled A4 and it seems like it's a totally different car with the M6 in it now.

It differs a little depending on where you get the parts etc. There is some examples of ballpark figures.

It's really not that costly, pretty much the price of a brand new transmission if you do the work yourself and get a used kit from someone other than the used junk yards you find on the web like hawksthirdgenparts.com or fbodymotorsports.com. They both sell a kit for about 2 grand. I found my kit from someone off of this site for 1400 with a short throw shifter and performance clutch that's barely broken in, then I found a PCM from someone on here for 100 and he is going to do all the tuning I need and put my VIN into it for me. Now all I need are a few wiring connectors and switches for the damn clutch the guy forgot to throw in the box hehe. I plan on doing all the work myself so it won't cost me a penny except for the tools I don't have yet. After reading the post it in here I think it should go pretty smooth. I'm excited!
