If you have enough time in between shifts to allow the higher rpms of powershifting to affect your ETs, then you should get an automatic because you're shifting to slow, and you're killing your transmission.

my tranny hates me enough as it is so i dont even think about it. you can feel a "notch" between the gears but as long as it goes in gear its all good. only downside to owning a second hand car is you dont know how bad the previous owner beat on it.

Powershifting is more strain on the clutch but it is hell on the synchros & slider assembly. I do it at the track. The gain I have always seen was the lunge due to the rpms staying higher up when you come back off the clutch. I picked up .2 sec in the 1/8th before doing back to back runs, one speed shifting and the next powershifting. This was with a muncie 4 speed though. Haven't gotten to test the T56 yet.

I do it but my car pretty much only sees the strip now.

I have a spare tranny just in case.

In my old camaro i've been powershifting for years with only a few broken parts, My ss
like the second time I blew up second gear. I think the clutch in the fourth gen just doesn't respond like an old mechanical. Old car yes, new car no for me.

i've done it a few times. it felt good at the time but i felt guilty about it afterwards....kinda like going to a strip club lol. wait, since when is speed shifting bad? didn't someone say that earlier? i do that all the time and figured most other people did as well.

It's pointless on the 1-2 because of wheelspin.
It's too hard on the synchros on the 2-3.
No point in powershifting once you get to the top of 3rd and a 3-4 powershift is hell for your clutch.

I used to do it. I think most people have to screw up there tranny to learn their lesson. I did

I could really care less about powershifting if there's a chance I might break my tranny in some way. I get into arguments all the time with my buddy who has a 5.0 and powershifts all the time. The thing is I don't need to powershift to get into the 13's.

Exactly. If you're powershifting, you just need more mods.

That's not powershifting, its speed shifting.

So then is this how it works?
Granny Shifting < Speed Shifting < Power Shifting?
Is there anything else? (don't even bring up 2x cl'ing)
I always said either "shifted" or "powershifted."
all these nifty terms nowadays.

The thing is that if you do it fast the regular way IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE!!

That is why it's so stupid. Its harder on the drivetrain but it doesn't make you any faster. I know there are people who think differently, and they are WRONG! Come here and I will prove it to you. If you can get better times from powershifting than from speedshifting then you're not doing it right. Someone should offer a class.

look, if you wanna powershift, get an automatic. that's what autos are meant to do. that's what they're made for. you got a manual - drive it like it was meant to be driven. and you M6 guys wonder why your rears give up faster than rosie o'donnell on weight watchers.

I've never even considered powershifting. I shift so close to redline I'd hit the limiter in every gear, which I hate.

I shift like ***, though.

- I have tried it before and decided that the gained performance is not worth the possible damage to the tranny components.
