Welp, I figured out why second gear wasn't working any more.

Think I'll just order up a new gear and see if I can put this thing back together now. A race automatic is on order, so no big deal if it doesn't work anymore.

Gotta admire a guy who works on his own T56! I would do it if I had to, but I am babying mine for the time being. Good luck.

So.. I guess the Hammer is the primary tool of choice?

I just did mine too. They aren't that bad. Be sure to keep a close eye on the detent ball on reassembly. It can make you mad . Once you get reverse, 5th and 6th off it's a piece of cake.

Have fun!

Yeah, I can tell that little spring loaded ball is going to be trouble. I tried pulling it without pulling the CAGS 'noid, but couldn't, so finally when I got the 'noid out, the ball went 'ploonk' across the room.

And yes, the hammer (and note: dremel & chisel) were the tools of choice yesterday. The two T40 guide screws were 'frozen' in the aluminum case - I broke 2 T40 bits before I finally slotted them with a dremel and started rotating them with the hammer and chisel. Not fun. Gotta order 2 new screws as well. The new ones will get anti-sieze.

Calling D&D tomorrow morning.

Call me crazy, but there's a guy locally who builds up 700R4's with custom parts. Like transbrakes. So, I'm going 700R4 w/ manual valve body & transbrake. He's got one running behind a big block truck that runs 10s. I told him that's the one I want.

I know, I know, 700R4 isn't as strong as the TH400, but, I'm going to give this a try at least. Plus it's cheaper than a Yank conversion package.

I've got my shopping list for my T56 parts. All my synchros (1/2, 3/4, 5/6) showed wear, my 2nd gear blocker ring, and my 2nd gear. Along with the 2 shift lever guide bolts. Wonder what kind of cash that'll cost...

I'll take a guess! $625 + S/H. Might as well throw in the steel 3/4 fork as well ($50).

Yeah, I'm a recent customer of D&D

Hopefully it'll be here by the weekend. Be nice to drive my car again.

I remember rebuilding my first T56. With the right tools and a press, it isn't so bad. Time consuming and detail work, yes it is!
