i now have the pro 5.0, but my car came with the hurst shifter. the pro 5.0 is a much better shifter, very solid. however the f*cker is loud. you need to trim the outer shifter boot to clear the pro 5.0 base, which i believe allows a lot more trans noise in. it's a little irritating. hopefully the lt's and loudmouth that are in the mail will drown it out!

The Pro is much smoother shifting than the Ripper. I've driven several 6-speeds with several types of shifters in them, and the Pro is definitely the best feeling one.

In all honesty, I have never experienced the Ripper. I really like the Pro 5.0. Much improvement over the stocker.

Its a personal preference.I made passes in cars with just about every type, I prefer the Ripper. I dont see how you could improve on it.

Pro 5.0 with Lou short stick here. Ultimate combo in my eyes.

I must be the shifter king..had in my 96,97 and 99 cars the following..stock shifter, factory hurst, hurst billet and pro 5.Have driven friends kirban and older ripper but the last two only for a few minutes..
Factory shifter..its quiet..its super sloppy..super imprecise..good luck finding any gears quickly say hello to bent pushrods with this baby if you do much quartermile stuff.
Factory hurst..a bit better than stock..also quiet..not much better for precision..the h looks cool on the hurst ****.Expensive new ..I got mine used for pretty cheap.
Pro 5..hated this one..super noisy..found it didn't seem to help me find my gears all that much..I did the dreaded 3 to 2 with the pro 5..don't like how its sloppy when not in gear.
Hurst billet..just went back to this after having it in my 97 and selling it to my buddy who sold it back to me.Its not quite as noisy as pro 5..
its more precise than the factory hurst and way more than the stock shifter. Its got the stick slanted over to the driver..I like that..just feels right. Its got the hurst name and have to get the hurst **** from slp although the factory hurst **** seems to fit.might be screwing up the threads though.
I think I can make the hurst quiet enough ,its only noisy at high rpm wot.I am going to try rob mod insulator and mabye wrap the stick in some kind of tape or put piece of rubber on stick like
rubber hose and maybe clamp it with hose clamps.
I will make this hurst work!!!
My buddies kirban seemed precise and pretty quiet.he doubled his number seven boot I think and did a few other tricks.
That ripper I drove was old ripper and car was so noisy with paxton blower and borla that I couldn't hear it rattle..I was too busy watching the boost gauge..it seemed precise enough but didn't do any high rpm shifting with it.

I've had the stock shifter, 2nd gen Ripper, Hurst Comp Plus, PRO 5.0 chopped 1", and currently the 1st gen Ripper. It's all personal preference but I like the rippers better. Easiest to find the gears IMO and not loose. A close second is the Hurst Comp Plus, I never missed a gear with this one.

All excellent shifters, do like I did and but them all!

I second the Kirban. Quiet ,smooth and precise. More Vette guys use these than F-body guys.
