Default short shifter giving faster 1/4's??

i was thinking, since a short shifter makes each shift much quicker, wouldn't this lead to faster 1/4 mile times? even if each shift is only made .05 quicker, going through 4 gears (3 shifts) for the quarter mile would add up to a .15 reduction in times? that's pretty big and would make it a damn good mod for like the $25 ws6store stick...does anyone have personal experience with this?

I'd say they're more for consistency than for taking time off your 1/4. With a good short throw it is easier to find the gates and therefore you should miss less shifts.

Well I never drove a M6 LS1 F-body just heard from a few guys that they miss 3rd once and awhile. I drove a M6 C5 Z06 once and M6 GTO alot and they seem pretty easy to hit gears to me atleast.

well i dont have one yet but i was planning on getting one. it just seems logical to me that it would save time because there is less distance you have to move the stick, meaning faster shifts. for example, look at the reverse....if the shifter were like 2 feet higher it would take a lot longer to push it between gears, so shortening the distance should make for faster shifts right?

A shortstick isn't really a "short shifter". I don't think putting a short stick on really makes shifts any faster... but buying an aftermarker short shifter like the Pro 5.0 I have really does make shifts shorter. With the Pro 5.0, there's barely any throw necessary and the gears are so close together. My car shifts a ton better with the aftermarket shifter.

You use an aftermarket shifter in conjunction with short stick. Thats a good combo, if you don't have hydraulic issues..i.e ,difficulty engaging gears.
