Default oil change, now my tranny is shot

Yesterday I took my car ('98 Z28 M6) up to Midas to get the oil changed. Yeah, yeah, I know. I live in a college apt. complex and I can't do any kind of auto work. Don't have a jack or anything either. Anyways, I go to Midas, and get an oil change and a new air filter, THATS IT. From the moment I left the place my shifter felt different, much more loose, it went from feeling like a crisp short throw (i have a B&M ripper) to feeling like a mushy semi-truck shifter or something. Well anyways, after driving the car for about 2 miles the next day (I live less than a mile from the shop) my tranny is ******* shot. Reverse is nonexistent, trying to shift into anything besides 1st or 2nd is ******* impossible, the whole thing feels fucked. The transmission was completely rebuilt half a year ago and never gave me a SINGLE problem until this oil change.

What the hell happened? I think it's definitely not a coincidence that this happened at all, which is why I'm on the phone with them right now. I don't know what kind of bullshit they are going to give me, but regardless I am 100% sure it's their fault and I'm not paying a cent for this to get fixed.

ouch - so i take it you dropped off the car and then picked it up later on???

i honestly dont see you getting a penny from them... but i agree with you, i think their guys fucked it up... maybe the hydraulics or something. the oil filter is RIGHT by the steel braided hydraulic line... maybe they were sloppy/careless and damaged that line. can you get the clutch to disengage???

(how long did you leave it there???)

I was there the whole time. Probably about 30 minutes. The clutch works, I can drive around in 1st and 2nd, and that's about it. Yeah, I have a feeling they're going to give me the shaft. I'm going throw a brick through their store window if that's the case.

I would also check to see if there is fluid in the tranny. Take out the top bolt on the side of the tranny and stick your finger in there. The tranny should have fluid up the top hole(the fill hole). If not, and it is VERY empty, you may have already ruined your new tranny!

Also, I would check all the hydraulics. They may have bent the line going into the slave.

Other than that, I don't know what they could have done.

I think the tranny fluid might be low. I haven't checked the car itself, but I checked the spot where it was parked overnight.....and there was fluid on the ground! I'm not sure if I could open the bolt to check the tranny fluid on the car; I'm not kidding when I say I have no car tools or tools at all. I really don't know if I could wrench it off. I'll check though. I'm supposed to take it to the tranny shop tomorrow, I guess I need to check if there is fluid or not, I don't want to drive it none in it.

Did they unbolt your shifter for any reason? I'd look there. I've had customer complaints of poor shifts and not being able to get into gears, when all it was was a loose shifter plate.

It IS Midas, who the F*ck knows what they did....

I would think they would know the difference in the oil plug and the trans plug. If it is low it probably ate the transmission by now causing way more damage. Depending on how low the fluid is it could be very bad. Let us all know.

Thanks,
Amber

Ive had my shifter work its way loose to, but when I returned from Iraq to pick my car up,the shop that rebuilt my engine. They said the tranny was acting funny.(the shop) and when I got it home it locked in 3rd. I checked the level and it had about 1qt. in it. Hopefully its the shifter, but for me its a new 1 from T-56.
