I've had my Spec 3+/aluminum flywheel for 8k and no problems to report. I auto-x the car, dump it at 4500 at the track, dead hook and go.....No chatter. Good clutch. New slave at time of install, spacer installed, remote bleeder installed, McCleod Blowproof bell installed all at the same time.
I think some of the problems stem from guys installing the clutch and then not properly breaking them in. I called Spec and they recommended 600 to 800 of non-highway miles to properly seat the clutch assembly. That's a pretty tough thing to do, given the temptation to simply roll out the driveway and let it happen.

My Spec 3+ just started slipping with 26000 miles on it. A lot of stop and go driving, track abuse and 440hp probably didnt help it last any longer. Also with a few thousand miles on it,the clutch stuck to the flywheel and i had to remove the tranny and get them unstuck and resurface the flywheel.
Im not sure which clutch i want to go with now.

If the clutch assembly lets go bad things can happen. The blowproof bell is designed to contain the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate in the event of a failure, thereby saving your feet the and everything else or at least that's the intent.Here's a link to a clutch explosion on a mazda rotary deal, no idea if he had a blowproof bell of not, but you get the idea.

It's different that's for sure, but the little bit of chatter I had intially is gone and it's doing just fine. I am convinced the break in period is ultra important to getting the most out of the clutch.

I just finished installing a 3+ and billet flywheel and for the 15 or so miles I've driven it so far, I can already tell I'm going to like it. I have zero chatter with it, and its more on/off than my spec 3. I can't wait to get it broken in and give it hell.

i had a spec 3+. not that old yet, but so far best clutch i have owned. I have had 2 spec 3's, one had pressure plate failure (old design) and the 2nd lasted me 10k+ miles and i pulled cause it wouldn't hold high clutch dumps anymore. Then i went to a spec 5 and HATED it, held great but noisy, chattered, and just plain a pain in the ***. So far the spec 3+ holds great at the track and street, hope to have good luck out of it.
