Spec 3 Clutch Slipping Which Clutch Should I Get With 430 Rwhp
I have a 98 trans am with patriot heads and cam with full bolt ons . I rarely ever race this car or abuse it but i took it to the track on prostars with mt drag radials out back and ran the car hard about 4 runs in the street and 2 runs at the track and the clutch is slipping now . when im on the highway doing about 70 mph im a little over 2000 rpms and i tried to pass someone and it reved up to about 3000rpms and finally the clutch caught. It only has like 2500 miles on the clutch its a regular spec stage 3 clutch . What should i get since my car is putting down alot of hp and torque. I dont wanna spend alot like on a textralia or twin disc. thanks for the help guys.

I would get the LS7, its cheap and it shouldn't have any problems holding the power. Stock Z06's make like 460-470 RWHP and the clutch holds. I just bought the LS7 clutch, the pressure plate, and the flywheel from Scoggin Dickey for $399.

I would say that you have some other issue that may have prematurely led the clutch to go out. Possibly incorrectly breaking it in?
I have the SPEC stage 3 (thats right, the stage 3, not the 3+) in my Z28 in my sig, and I have about 7,000 miles on it with 614 RWHP, and it has seen a ton of runs with slicks at the track, and it has yet to slip on me at all or give me any issues what so ever.
Now, I know I am already past the HP limit for the clutch, and when it does go, I plan on getting a 3+, but the point I am making here is that the stage 3 should be overkill for your RWHP and driving habits. Especially if the same clutch is successfully holding my RWHP level and MY driving habits.

Im getting the CTR dual friction installed today. I decided to go with it after reading everyones posts on how much trouble they were having with their spec 3's. I have a buddy with 475RWHP that toasted his spec 3 in less than a month. So i chose not to go with the spec but ill see how the CTR holds up. Anyone like the CTR??

Spec 3+, billet steel flywheel. I've got 17,XXX miles on one and it's still holding strong. Drag racing, open road racing, Auto X, daily driven. I've abused it. I would have to recommend a new flywheel over resurfacing your old one. You can barely take any material off and just about everyone I know that's done it always has problems.

You won't find another clutch for anywhere close to the money that a SPEC stage 3, or 3+ will cost you.
Almost all the issues I have heard about with SPEC clutches resulted in either their previous design flaws that they no longer use, or the fact that the clutch was not properly broken in (in other words the drivers ignored the break in procedure to some extent).

I had great luck with my 3 (not 3+). Over 10,000 street miles and I don't know how many passes in a high 11 sec car dumped at 5k+ with slicks. It's still in the car and drives great, doesn't chatter or anything. Get ahold of Spec and see what they'll do.

95...the flywheel concerns me a bit. If it was not truly flat when installed it would affect both the life and capacity of the unit. Check it out, send me some pics and I will be happy to assist you from there. Thanks!

defiently seems like something else is probably causing it to fail pre-maturely . did they install the shim behind the slave? maybe took to much off the flywheel? sounds like it was probably draggin or not fully engaging and now that it basically slipped for 5 months it is toast.
just some food for thought before you go and get another clutch and smoke the new one in 5 months

That clutch you have is junk. Buy a GM LS7 clutch for cheap and never look back!
SDPC ---->
The best money you will ever spend will be to "dump" you current clutch!

Ask yourself this.
How many posts here contain horror stories about non-GM after-market clutches that are supposed to be designed to handle big power?
From what I can tell, the manufacturors are typically, not interested in the owner's problems and replacements under warranty are as rare as a major league baseball player who does not inject steriods on a daily basis!

No doubt, I bought a oem ls6 clutch from a aftermarket company, just crossing my fingers. It will hold on the first and maybe second launch then heats up and smells up my damn interior on the third launch. I am going LS7 next time. btw I got this cheap as well. about 250 bux. You get what you pay for. NO MORE but GM clutches for me.
