Noobie to manual transmissions
This is my first manual transmission car and by now, I can drive around just fine in a manual.
However, I have a few questions concerning the health of my transmission. When my clutch is cold, it seems the first 1/4 of travel in the clutch pedal is completely loose. Is this normal? The pedal gets stiffer as I drive around and things warm up. The previous owner claims the clutch was replaced 4k miles ago.
I have grinded going into 2nd gear twice already and it pains me to gear the grinding noise. The first time I grinded, I was still spinning the wheels at the top of first, so I thought it was my fault. The second time, I was at the top of the first again, but had full traction. I am a bit confused, is my syncro going or am I doing something wrong? I've gone to 2nd quickly without any troubles before.
Also, whenever I grind, I immediately clutch in and bring the shifter into neutral. Each time I grinded, I grinded for no more than a second. Will be gears be fine? Should I change the transmission fluid because of metal shavings?

you will be fine, seems your hydro system needs to be upgraded. Should help with the shifts. these transmissions are pretty tough. however if you have high mileage on your you might need a rebuild

well the hydros control the clutch is seems that when you have been driving it for a little bit you have built up some pressure in the line making it work better, thus the idea of working better when warm. What do you mean by play in the clutch? Try bleeding it and see how that goes that can make a world of difference.

I think you need the drill mod and to bleed it.
