Default How much fluid is needed to bench bleed?

First, is it ok to bleed the master/slave combo with some brake cleaner to rid the system of contaminants that could lower the effectiveness of the of the Motul DOT4+ brake fluid I'm going to use in the clutch hydraulics? Lastly, how much fluid do I need to properly bench bleed the setup?

You will probably go through half a pint to a pint to bench bleed it. I always bench bleed it upside down and it takes a lot less time.

You bench bleed the master and slave, upside down?

If you have the slave out of the tranny (which if you're bench bleeding you would need to). Mount the slave high up using some string. Then mount the master in a position such that the line going to the slave points straight up. This is what I meant by upside down. This will insure that any trapped air will move it's way to the top. Once it gets into the slave it's much easier to get the air out. I actually used a vacuum pump and that worked pretty good.

Ah, gotcha, Steve. Excellent idea! Got any pics of the vaccum pump you use?

I just used a mighty vac, but something that's electric would probably work much better. I've never really flushed the lines out with brake fluid though. However, if you have the McLeod master you can easily take it all apart and flush it out.

I think you're asking for BIG trouble if you put brake cleaner into the system. I'd hate to think what that stuff would do to the internal rubber parts. That stuff is a VERY strong solvent.

If you want to clear out contaminants, just flush some fresh fluid through the system.
