Default Does this mean its time for a new clutch?

Ok I just noticed this noise about 1/2 hour ago. After a wide open run (from the bottem of second to midway through 4th) I noticed that the car will make a "tink tink tink" sound if I hammer it while just cruising around in 3rd, 4th, or 5th at lower rpm's. It sounds kinda like beebee's being shook in a tin can. It only last for a second on the initial hit of throttle. I think my clutch may be going even though I only have about 5k miles on it. I put a '02 zo6 clutch in last summer but have since added H/C/I and a few boltons. Stock rear end with 3.42's. I'm thinking this is clutch related because if I punch it at about 3500 rpm's in first, it doesn't bust the tires loose like it used to. Am I right in assuming this, what should I do? Please tell me it isn't engine related, I don't want to tear it apart for the 4th time!!

Thanks,
Matt

it sounds like you are having a similar problem as i am...only thing is that i just replaced the clutch, but it makes a noise like that and at lower rpm's. https://ls1tech.com/threads/showflat...=2&fpart=1 if you find out the problem, let me know, and if i find out, ill let you know,...good luck

restoman, thanks for the reply. My problem just started, it had been driving fine for about 2k miles now with the heads/cam untill now. Something you might want to check is your tranny mount. A new one is like $25, its easy to change and hell, you might get lucky. I doubt that is what your problem is though. Another stupid thing to check is your ypipe. Make sure it has enough clearence with the floor boards. Did you bench bleed the hydrolic system? If you are sure you installed the clutch right, you never know, it might be something stupid like the ypipe. Its happened to me before. My tin can noise only comes on at the initial hit of throttle for a second, yours seems to occur under different circumstances. What really sucks is that I'm 300 miles from home at school so I can't exactly stick it up on jackstands and tear the tranny out.

This is not spark knock/detonation is it??
Try goin up a hill & lug the motor down with a high gear & see if it does it.

Ok I tried that, It made the tinking noise rolling up a hill at about 20mph in 5th. I'm not too educated on knock or detonation other than they are bad. Is this my problem? the car had been tuned with ls1edit. Any ideas? Maybe I should try the tuning forum. Wrecher, sent you a pm.

Ok... I'm wondering about this too... In my application I was thinking I might have a bent pushrod.

The imporatant factor I need to know is.., is it the same tinking noise you where originally complaining about?
If it is, you need to start checking out what is wrong now.
You need to scan your pcm on a test drive & see what it shows.
Is it lean? Do the knock sensors show activity?
Is fuel pressure ok?
Any codes?

I was thinking I may have gotten some crappy gas. I ran all the old gas out, filled up, and put some octane booster in. I haven't heard the noise since. I think I was getting some knocking at lower rpm due to the heat + possible bad gas + my higher compression. I'm going to run this tank out, fill up again with some more octane booster and hopefully the knock won't show up any more. If it does, I'll have the pcm scanned to check for codes. Thanks for the input!
