'02 Z28 with stock 3.42's and about 1700-1800 at 75mph. At 70 it's dead even at 1700 (Even though our tachs are a bit slow).

I am willing to bet your tach is off. I have an 5" tach and there is as much as a 300 rpm difference at different places in the rpm band. I am at 1650 rpm at 75 mph.

Re: Question for M6 guys with stock 3.42's?
At 75mph, my 6speed is at 1900-1950 rpms...and I don't have aftermarket gears. The weird thing is that my car idles at 1k exactly, but autotap says it's around 830 or 840...

wstside : sounds like your car has had a cam in it at one point, that could be the reason for in the increase in rpm, lots of places like to advance the idle for cam.

Naw, the only other owner of this car was my cousin, who didn't even spend the money for a filter, much less a cam. Is there a way to fix this? Anyone who knows, PM me with ideas...

Re: Question for M6 guys with stock 3.42's?
Ive had 3 LS1 M-6 3.42 cars now and the tachs havent read the same on one yet. My latest 02 reads over 200 rpm off at idle. The dealer said they would replace the whole gauge cluster but Im really not to excited about those knuckledraggers tearing my new dash apart. Long story short - dont trust your stock tach!! <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

stock tachs are not acurate, mine idles at 1000 indicated, but actual is 830 on a tech-2
(i have a replaced cluster, replaced by pontiac on 4/98 by previous owner, that might be the cause)
for a better test, put it in 4th, and go 70mph, should be near 3400 rpms if stock, or 3750 if 373's. (approx)
Ryan.

Re: Question for M6 guys with stock 3.42's?
I don't know about going 75... but going 80 in 6th my tach reads right at 2,000 RPMs... I'd guess about 1,800-1,900 going 75.
