Tranny or Traction ControL???
Ok, this has only happened to me twice in 2 weeks, but it scared the **** out of me... I'm racing a guy from a 40-50 kick in 2nd, hit 3rd, then when I slam into 4th and I lurch forward in my seat with the "low trac" light coming on and the wheels skidding.... WTF is it?? And is it hurting my tranny? I don't know if it's the clutch not engaging/disengaging correctly, or if it's just the traction control turning on?? After letting off and slowing, I continue just like nothing happened, car feels fine... Most of my friend's LS1 cars have a switch for traction control... my vert doesn't so I don't know if it's just always on or if I even have it.. Please advise!

If you don't have a switch, you don't have traction control. Based on what you described, I'm wondering if maybe you missed 4th gear. What happened to the RPM's when you shifted--did they drop or shoot way up?

You may have hit 2nd instead of 4th. Because when you hit a lower gear like second it puts more mechanical resistance through the drivetrain, because your final drive ratio goes way up. For instance in 6th gear with 4.10s my final drive ratio is 2.05. And in first gear its 10.906. (I only used first because i cant remember what the ratio for 2nd in the tranny is.) So there for when the final drive ratio goes way up such as going from 4th to 2nd it makes it alot harder to spin the wheels when you downshift. I think thats right.. But thats just what i think.

That's how it felt, like 2nd...but c'mon man, I know how to drive. I raced my 5.0 for years, never had this happen.. It's a straight shot from 3rd to 4th, you can't **** that up. Not to mention, I'm having slave/master/clutch/pressure plate issues causing my clutch to stick.. So let's do a hypothetical situation... I'm in 3rd WOT, the clutch is stuck to the floor, and I force it into 4th...what happens? Dude, I don't want to **** up my trans, and I'm 99% sure I hit 4th, I'm not a bad driver.

It doesn't mean you're a bad driver but it sure sounds like you hit second instead of fourth. What you described is exactly what happens when you do that--ask me how I know. Everybody misses a gear every now and then--especially if you aren't constantly racing to stay in practice. The only thing you need to watch is your pushrods. If you still have stockers they sometimes end up bent and you hear increased valve train noise.

After fooling with it, I think that's prolly what happened. The mustang tremec is impossible to do it on, like a bar in the way. But the T-56 is so damn close I could easily have done it... I'll just be ready for it from now on and push right alittle.. That way if I miss I'll just go into 6th. No valvetrain noise yet, so hopefully everything's fine. Thanks!
