Spec 3+ or Spec 4 or Spec 5-Help me decide what's best for my app!
trying to decide on whats best for me. car is a 02 SS cam only for now with nitrous. down the road it will only get more extreme. car is driven every now and then and doesnt see alot of street time anymore but does see the beach sometimes (about 3hrs away). does see a decent amount of track time and is driven to the track. it isnt a track only car.
3+ $764 with billet steel flywheel
4 $649 with billet steel flywheel
5 $710 with billet steel flywheel
i know on different websites the Spec 3+ is said to be the ultimate street/strip clutch, the Spec 4 is more of a more race than street clutch, & the Spec 5 is not streetable and is for the track only.
now i know thats what the websites suggest but how much of that is true?
how do these clutches differ at the track and on the street?
how is pedal feel, engagement, chatter etc?
any help is appreciated.
thanks

my turbo camaro is pushin 500whp and i have the spec 3 + clutch, its holding strong and i really like the engagement feel. its not really harsh and mine ONLY chatters when i dont give it enough gas and it bogs under 700rpm

Textralia OZ700 Z-grip, hands down. I know you asked about SPEC clutches, but if pedal feel and other variables are being considered, as well, you really can NOT beat this clutch. It LITERALLY has a slightly lighter pedal than my dad's bone stock 04 GTO and holds a LOT of power and high RPM launches. Absolutely no chatter after the first 50-100 miles and you also get to beat the hell out of it right out of the box with no break-in period. If you're planning on spending the money on a SPEC 4 or 5 anyways, definitely check this clutch out.

If drivability and capacity are your concern a stage 3+ is the way to go. It will feel better during engagement than either the 4 or 5 and will generally wear better than these as well. I am sure that I will be viewed as biased but this is my .02 and I have driven them all! Let me know if you have any further questions. Thanks!

Spec 3+ here. It drives like complete **** for the first 20 miles and starts seating in at about 50 miles. Total break in will take 300-400 miles or so and then it drives great.
No chatter at all, but is engages/disengages very fast. Just takes some getting used too. Feels 90% stock. Grabs hard too.
From what I have read, the 4&5 grab good but dont have pleasant street manners for a occasional driver. Lots more chatter.

I won't disagree with everything else you said, but this statement is clearly not true. I drove the 3, then the 3+ then the 2, then the Tex and a stocker at the same time.
The 3 is a hard pedal clutch, the 3+ is a bit harder, going back to the 2 I thought I had close to stock feel as it was WAY lighter than the 3 or 3+, but then when I switched to the Tex and compared that with my dad's stock 04 GTO, they were both even much lighter than the 2, which was MUCH lighter than the 3 or 3+.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that you get used to pedal feel very quickly even if it's a very heavy pedal. Unless you're daily driving the car or going on a lot of long trips with traffic, pedal feel shouldn't be too high on the list as compared to holding power, engagement, and longevity. For a long time, my Stage 3 Spec felt absolutely normal to me and every stock car I drove felt broken. Then when I got used to the Stage 2, the same feeling occurred with the stockers but the 3+ my brother had felt VERY heavy, along with the RAM Powergrip HD he replaced it with. The stock clutch finally felt normal again after I put the Tex in and got used to that one.
Just my experiences. I've never driven a 4 or 5 and only have second hand experiences with them.

I've got the 3+ and have had great luck with it. It's got a great feel to it and engagement is awesome! I think they're rated to something like 800-850 rwtq so it should be able to take anything you're going to throw at it. I drove a friends '02 with an LS7 clutch and it wasn't a whole lot stiffer then his.

I have the spec 5 in my car. I haven't bolted the procharger up yet but I have put some break in miles on everything "new engine, new clutch, new rear end". The clutch is pretty stiff but I have no problems with it on the street. It does chatter every now and then. Hopefully someone can chime in and say how long they usually last on the street.
If I were you I think I would go with the 3+. I don't expect the 5 to hold up to well to street driving. I'll be happy if I get 20k miles out of it with my setup.

The hub springs have always been a weak link in the Spec Stage 3 clutch. Why not remove them? The only difference between a stage 3 and 4 is the hub springs. This is why I bought the stage 4 years ago and LOVED it

BTW- I'm one of the few NON tex followers. After having a twin, it spinning after the first time on a WOT pass after a 500-600 mile break in, I'm staying with SPEC. They say they are the most rebuildable but I could not find rebuild parts to save my life.

Second of all, your posts are all off topic. If you cant read, the OP asked about the SPEC 3+, 4, and 5. Clearly, your reading comprehension is lacking.
If you can't stay on topic, find another thread to be a fanboy in.
To the OP, honestly, I would trust what SPEC says about their clutches. However, I would choose your clutch based on your current build and go with the 3+.
