Default Can't decide which clutch to buy.

Just need some advice on which clutch is good for my application. I have a 99 TA with cam, headers, ported throttle body, ls6 intake, slp flopack, lid, and tuned. The car makes 401rwhp and was it was done by Speed Inc. What clutch would you go with? I have looked at the Centerforce DFX, Dual Friction, Hays, Ram, and it has a Spec Stage 3 in it now that is slippin. I have put 19,000 miles on it since I've had it. I don't know what to do. Give me some advice. Also does anyone know how much the Textralia's cost for just a disc and pressure plate not with the flywheel.

I was just about to post the same question. Ive been looking at the Textralia 0Z700, the Spec 3+ and the Mcleod RST/RXT caught my eye as well. Im doing heads and cam this winter I should be in your power range.

My reading on here shows the Spec to be hit and miss, but most sponsers dont seem to have any problems with it. (EPP, Slowhawk from reading threads from searching earlier)

The McLeod seems new as there isn't much on the new stuff unless Im not searching it quite right. It caught my attention because it said it bolts to the stock flywheel but I read that isn't true.

The Text seems like the most highly regarded clutch on here, but getting it without the flywheel I am not sure I have seen it sold as such anywhere.

Its a tough call spending all this money, but I am more than likely going with the Text.

Yeah I just heard about the Textralia a few days ago. Im on a $500 budget and the Textralia kit is around $1000. I don't want to buy a Spec again so I might go with the Centerforce DFX. Who knows. Thanks for the input.

Why dont you want to go with the spec again? How many miles were you expecting? Didn't like how the pedal was or how it drove? Just curious, hopefully help my decision

I'd go with the ls7 set up nice engagement and pedal effort.

It is slipping in the higher gears. I just assumed you could get more miles out of it, and people say they are hit and miss. I also just wanted to try something different. How many miles should you get out of a clutch?

I have the Centerforce Dual Friction and it lasted 16,000 miles before it started slipping in higher gears. I have 99z28 withlongtubes, ory, lid, LS6 intake and a ported tb. So needless to say you're making quite a bit more power than me. If I was you I would get something better than the Centerforce. Does anybody know if the LS7 is better than a Centerforce DF?

Yeah I am kinda scared to order the Centerforce. I have a guy on here thats trying to sell me the LS7 and he had it in a car with 488whp and it held fine, but he went with an automatic. I might buy his if he still has it. Thanks for the advice man.

RPS makes a nice clutch. I've also heard great things about the Tex and I'm personally running the LS7 w/fidanza, but I'm only putting 323 to the wheels.

Remember guys...clutch life is affected by a number of factors including flatness of the flywheel, break-in, driving style, etc...meaning that 19K isn't bad. I have some customers that get more mileage and some that get less...and as much as people may allude to inconsistencies in the parts...it is much more likley that they are experiencing inconsistency in installer, driver, and useage that play a much larger part in the equation!

As most of you know, I am a big fan of the stage 3+ as it provides great drivability and torque capacity...giving you the best of both worlds. Let me know if you all have any further questions. Thanks!

Default Save up and pick the Textralia 0Z700

I put a Textralia 0Z700 in my car and it is the only clutch I will ever use from now on. I can't say enough about it. It is just that good. Once you get past the quick break-in period you'll never have a clutch problem again. I know it's expensive, but it's worth every penny. Find a way to save up for it and you will be very pleased that you did.

I did 60,000 bolt on miles with the dual friction. Now for my new motor h/c/i 370 I'm using the centerforce DFX and centerforce flywheel.

just get a spec 3+, had that in my F-body and never had a problem with it. i have a 0z700 in the vette(which makes less power and is lighter then my old F-body) and have so many engagement problems that its not worth it.
A spec 3+, new master and slave are goin in it next week.

oz700 is an overpriced frisbee

I got 732 miles from my Tex OZ700 before I couldn't stand the chatter any more. The LS7 I replaced it with seems to hold my power with no chatter. I have 450 miles on that clutch and am pleased so far.

I'm at 35k daily driving with my LS7 clutch with 200 range of track passes, mind you I've never cut better than a 1.9 60 ft and my clutch dumps tend to be around the 3500-4k rpm mark.

Good fluid maintenance and a tendency NOT to slip the clutch at launch tend to help out for longevity. I fear though that once the heads are in, the age of the clutch will show.

I cut low 1.6X's with 6k clutch dumps on my ls7 clutch. and I have 400 rwhp.

I can only hot lap it about 5 times then it won't hold the clutch dumps lol, but other than that, I am very pleased

After having most every clutch on the market for these cars (including the JUNK textralia twin disc) I am keeping my business with Spec. I've beat on Spec clutches harder then any other clutch on the market because its the only one that can take the abuse with a smile.
